Using stock Zetec ecu for spark only
NigeEss - 21/2/12 at 02:25 PM

Currently running an 1800 Zetec which whoever fitted it managed to use the stock ecu and
injection system with an Escort Up'n'Over manifold.
Now I want to ditch this and go R1 carbs.
Can I use the current setup for spark control only and save £200 by not buying Megajolt ?

sorry not sure how you would do that, but I'm not sure it would be worth it either...

if you do get the stock ECU to run the sparks only then you'll be stuck with its ignition map which probably won't be quite right and no easy way of changing it

I'm guessing that the stock ECU uses a MAP sensor and these are tricky to setup with multiple carb's / throttle bodies, the R1 carb's have a TPS built on as standard but I'm not sure how you could easlily calibrate this to work with the ford ECU....
if you run it without a MAP sensor or TPS (i.e. 2D mode) then you'll be missing out on throttle responce and fuel econnomy

you'll already have the coil pack, VR sensor and a trigger wheel built into the flywheel...
so all you'd need is an EDIS4 (assuming your current setup doesn't have one already) and the megajolt itself (TPS version = $152 +p&p)

The zetec's run tps for load on the ignition and maf on the fuel side.

It will run but your not going to know how well with out sticking it on the rollers. The banger racer's have been using them for a few years due to a higher rev limit than the esc units.

Whats it in ? I sold this to a guy who was going to stick it in jago jeep.
