Robin Hood Lolocost parts
andylancaster3000 - 26/8/04 at 12:42 AM

When flicking through the latest Kitcar mag I came across an advert for RH lolocost parts and was amazed by the price of some of their parts. Mainly the stainless manifolds for £50!!!

I don't seem to understand why quite a few people in this forum are so anti Robin Hood. Am I missing something, is the quality very low etc.?

Andy.

yes! but not everything, you just have to be careful with what you get. I got twin roll hoops, and as you could imagine there isnt much they can do wrong on those. Likewise, ball joints and similar stuff, all good. However, by all accounts, bodywork and similar is trouble (hearsay, not personal experience).

but the price is very low.

BTW, i think lolocost is seperate from robin hood now? maybe?

My only advice... make sure you see what it is you're buying beforehand and that the price is sufficiently lower than elsewhere to take a risk on the no returns policy.

The guy who owns it is a right idiot. He was prepared to rubbish his own product in front of a load of potential customers, (I challenged him on his stand at Stoneleigh) saying it was my problem and I was the one stupid enough to buy it. This was over a refund of a £15 product that was mail ordered.

I will never buy anything from them again!

I was thinking of buying the standard nosecone and some swept wings from them, has anyone got experience of these components? I would rather not drive all the way down there to find they are absolutely keek. Cheap is good if the quality is o.k. but I would have a long way to go to look at poor quality fibreglass

On the manifold front, I received their catalog yesterday and read that they have quite good links with stainless steel manufacturers as they buy quite a lot for their kits, this could explain why they can flog stainless stuff quite cheap

I have a Lolocost nose cone sat in front of me here in my office (one advantage of being self employed, there is no one to complain about bits of car in the office!!) - I would say the quality is OK. Main problem is that it looks like it was moulded from a nose which had a badge on it as there is a distinct mark where there probably was a Lotus/Caterhan badge - I will just put something there myself when I eventually have something to put the nose on.

I've bought some good stuff from them for very little money- ball joints, rear lights, Sierra steering column bush and various other bits and bobs.

I'm a littl dubious about the bodywork though- I definately noticed the nose cones had that funny bulge in the nose.
Also noticed that they're slightly miss-shapen- they don't sit 'square' on the floor which is a shame as they're a good price.
It may well not be noticeable when on the car- or maybe with the brackets in place it would be forced back into shape!

Having said that I haven't seen them since Newark so maybe they've changed the moulds since then.

HTH,

James

No problems whatsoever with the ball joints I bought from them. Delivery was very prompt aswell.

The saying 'you get what you pay for ' is very apt. for them
I been happy with most things and when I have returned things they have always replaced /refunded for them..
I didnt like the look of the bodywork so I didnt buy it,its a choice.
being fair to them lolocost is there name and they produce goods at a low price !

Everything is sold assuming you will do the 'fettling' yourself. The fettling varies from removing sharp edges to remaking the stuff yourself
