Hi all,
I have decided that it's time someone picked up the torch and volunteered to host a list of accurate engine weights. This data can only be
aquired when the engine is stripped to the short block and all the accesories weighed seperately.
So here's what I think the list should include.
Vital Stats -Year and model number of the original car it was taken from. Displacement, valvetrain style (OHC-DOHC-OHV...)
Shortblock - include oilpan, crank pulley and idler if it requires. (OHV should include the cam and pushrods). Water pump and oil pump. Flywheel.
Head - include valves, springs, valve covers, cams (if used) and cam pulleys. If injectors go into head, weigh those too, but state it in the
footnotes.
Intake manifold - Bare manifold. Then weigh seperately all items used on the manifold that would be required to pass a standard emissions test.
Include throttle body(s) and metering device if required as seperate items.
Exhaust - State if it's stock, cast iron, tubular, Turbo style. Include the downpipe as a seperate item.
Accessories - All should be weighed individually so they can be added to the list and people will know what to add or subtract to get their final
engine weight. Accesories are Starter, Alternator, A/C...
Transmission(or)transaxle - Weigh the clutch and clutch plate, transmission, drive shaft including u-joints and rear differential. all seperately. If
you have an FWD drivetrain, just weigh the whole transaxle at one time.

I need your help to refine the above list and also your effort to add to the list if you ever have your engine out for a rebuild.
Lets DO this right guys, I am tired of everyone always guessing at what those engine weights are!

PS - I though about also compiling a list of engine dimensions, but that seems too much work! However, if people send me engine dimensions, I would
include those in the list too.
ChrisG collected a load of this information- have a look for posts by him about it. He had a long session in a scrapyard with a mate and a set of
scales.... as it were...!

i will weigh my gm 2.0 lt d-tech engine when it comes out of the daewoo but i'm not spliting it to weigh the head
i got BIG scales, should be fun!
