Size question
Sierra - 20/9/12 at 08:24 PM

Hi guys just after some advice I'm looking for my first kit car and have seen a nice tiger avon for sale but is 500 miles away, problem is I'm just over 6 foot, 13 stone and size 11 feet and not sure if ill fit. How do you guys feel in yours and do you think I'd fit as don't want to make the trip up there only to find I won't fit.

BangedupTiger - 20/9/12 at 08:26 PM

Im 6'3, 21st and size 13 feet.

I have a narrow bodied Tiger. I fit fine.

Thanks for the reply, it's very confusing as some say there 6 foot and don't fit then other bigger people do
I've been really sad and measured myself so I'm 73 inches tall and when sitting down with legs flat to floor my legs are 43 inches heel to bum, not sure if that would help people get an idea. Also the car in question is a tiger avon so not sure if that any smaller to other tigers.

I thought the Avon was one of the smaller versions. Where are you?

Sierra - 20/9/12 at 10:00 PM

I'm in hertfordshire, yes I've heard they are one of the smallest but guess you don't know till you try

BangedupTiger - 20/9/12 at 10:40 PM

I also fit in R500 superlights and they are smaller than the avon.

Seat has to be removed and I have to sit on the chassis, but I am larger than most

It's probably worth finding a local club and sitting in a few different makes before travelling hundreds of miles

Look up SG7's a club local to you with a lot of different cars

Sound advice, sit in and try as many as you can before deciding.
If you dont like sitting in it, you wont enjoy driving it!

Have sent you a U2U as well..

You might get in the Avon if you have floor mounted pedals, mine has the standard pendulum pedals and I have to have my knees bent up to the dash to drive!
I have got the seat right back to the bulkhead but they are padded (Baby cubs) Heel to bum I'm 37"!

The Avon is the smallest Tiger I believe?

You really need to try one on for size!!

Sierra - 21/9/12 at 09:50 AM

Thanks for your info, how tall are you?
I've spoken to the current owner who said that hell also give the original pad seats which are apparently the smallest you can get so hopefully that would help, it's also got a large cut out under the wheel. Picture of car below.

I'm currently on the look out for a avon close by so I can see if I fit.

A small steering wheel helps.

I had to have a 10inch steering wheel in my Dax Rush to fit my legs in properly.

BangedupTiger - 21/9/12 at 11:11 AM

Difference between the current seats and the basic seat pads I found no difference.

Biggest problem for me was the steering wheel when my left foot was off the clutch, so I went down to 10" steering wheel.

That steering wheel already looks high???? certainly compared to my Cat.

melly-g - 21/9/12 at 12:14 PM

The steering wheel on the Avon does sit high like that, the Avon is quite a bit smaller than the Cat.

Where are you based Sierra?

Oh I'm about 5' 8" and too heavy to talk about it!!

Sierra - 21/9/12 at 12:18 PM

I'm based in watford hertfordshire. I've done abut if reading about cutting the pedals and rewelding them so that's another option as well as a 10" wheel.
Just don't want to make a wasted 1000 mile round trip to find I can't get in it to drive

If you end up considering any MK Indys you are welcome to have a sit in mine before you travel miles.

I am 6.3" with size 12's and an ample pie retention and I couldn't safely drive the avon. It's a bit close with a book locost. I only live up the road from tiger so went and tried theres.

Sierra - 21/9/12 at 02:19 PM

Thanks for the replies, I'd consider any style 7 as long as its well built and has good power.
Thanks for the offer and I may take you up on that as it will be good to see the size, can you message me when your free please for me to pop down for 5 minutes.

Where were you finding it hard, legroom?

Sierra - 23/9/12 at 03:29 PM

Well thanks to Stuart for letting me try his Indy for size so I've now got a good idea of what does/doesn't fit.
It was a perfect fit in his mk and I measured the back of the seat to pedals were 1100mm which is 100mm more than what there is in the tiger I want to buy.
Question now is where can I gain upto 100mm from, seats are odyssey seats so maybe there and pedals are sierra ones so many cut and bend them.
Does anyone know how much I'd gain from using the plastic seats and how much from the pedals?
