Wth a total budget of about £8k for a CEC who offers the most comprehensive vfm kit?

At just under £4k the MNR mx5 kit looks good when you factor in content and donor cost.

Any others?

I was about to say the same thing, when I was at the kit car show the MNR package seemed the best option. It's not a full kit though, from memory there were a few things that weren't included with the kit or the donor.

In terms of value for money I don't think you could beat a ready built and IVAd car! Plenty of possibility for tweeking

IVA & TAX all adds up - more if you fail.
I would def buy an IVA'd one and then sort it to my liking...

if you want to build a car, a GKD would be a good choice, lots of cheap donors and better engines than the mx5.

I would say that building will most often be more expensive than buying and tweeking. Those small things add up quickly, more so when you make mistakes and end up with things you don't need. I have bought enough stuff for three cars over the past few years, but then again, mine wasn't really a "kit", just a collection of parts and a chassis, and I didn't know what I was doing. I learned a lot though.

It's a bit like the Mastercard advert...

The experience, learning and satisfaction of building your own car (scratch or kit) is priceless, for everything else there's Mastercard.

AS above the very best value is buying a car already on the road. If I was to do another kit car I'd be looking for a part built one though. You still get most of the benefit of someone else paying out and sourcing most/all of the parts, but you also get the pleasure of finishing a car and putting it on the road. There's always lots of part built cars around too.

Out of budget, but best value for money if you're going build and keep for a few years would be a Caterham simply as they hold their money so much better.
