Krismc - 20/1/13 at 08:38 AM

...Thinking about getting a Go Pro Hero Cam Should I get a 1 or 2 or save up for a 3 ?

And is it best to go direct? or Ebay or another place with a decent discount? I like the idea of the remote and roll bar mount..

..Discuss below as I know your all good at....

Ben Copeland has one for sale.

I've just looked at the spec of the 3 - and while having the means to switch it on and off remotely over the net is clever, a function unlikely to be used while taped to a car.

Seen them go used for £160 on eClart.

But non in stock for delivery and hardly any around the country. I'd have a 50min drive each way to get the nearest one, and then theres only 1 in stock.

Usual Argos Bargain rubbish, 1 per shop if you're lucky.. grrrrr

I have the hero 2 which all though it looks like a toy camera the results it produces a first class, I can see why they are used so much for tv program's

Loads of accessorys for them for any use you can think of an the time lapse and slow motion features work very well are simplicity itself. Totally recommend it

Looked a the version 3 but there was not enough extra features to justify it for me personally

I ended up with the GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition, its a pretty neat bit of kit.

Gives my computer a hard time while uploading the videos. So ive got a few questions?

Any comments regarding recording types? 1080p or 720P, 60 or 100fps.

Leaving in AVI for Youtube or converting to MP4? 20 Second clip was 510Mb AVI or 42Mb as a Mp4

And any other setups for car footage recommended?

Kris

depends on what you want to view it back in, normal stuff it use mine in 720 with 60 fps, do you 1080 on the odd time but the file sizes are huge

an external mic is a must as the standard is crap, need to find an adaptor for my 3, have seen one somewhere that allows charging at the same time as filming which is good for long time lapse on the car

No chance of that!! Roll bar mounts are out of stock too! I did however manage to get a battery bacpac for half price from them.

I recently pruchased a Hero2 M/sports edition from Demon Tweeks at £199. These are still selling new for the same price - and more - although eBay second hand ones may be cheaper! I looked at the basic Hero3 which is about the same price, but by the time you buy the suction mounts etc it works out a lot more, and the I certainly couldn't justify Hero3 Black price. The 2 is a great piece of kit for the money, and I'm pleased with mine.

Cheers, Nick

If its anything like the special offer they had for the remote wifi bundle, then its non existent, a shoddy offer from Argos, offering the wifi kit for £69, however no shop online or store actually had any......

I have a Hero2, its great, bought from eBay for £197 from a reputable dealer UK Projectors

GoPro Hero 3 Black Adventure Portable Video Camera Go Pro Hero3 from UK Stock! 0818279010022 | eBay
