I want to go out in my 7 !!
johnemms - 6/2/13 at 08:58 AM

Having gotten Taxed & IVA'd last October
Not had that many good days to get out..
Started thinking about my humble crossflow & more power !
Engine swap? Nitro? etc..

I read this .. Duratec vs Crossflow

Now I 'need' to get out for a blat!!

You and me both! I passed my iva in july/August and then it blew up the week after and I didn't get it back on the road til the end of October so have been in a similar situation as you, not had the weather! I've only had a few small blats in it so far :-(

Bring on the summer!! And for the love of god let it be a good one this year!

just go out in it, its still good fun even though its not at warp speed...

Get out when you can and be patient... Summer will arrive this year. Make the most of it when it does.

Dura-tec might be a nice upgrade but I'd leave it in the planning stage untill next winter. Start it now and you'll probably be posting a similar thread this time next year, having missed this summers use.

Isn't Zetec an easier upgrade as the exhaust is the same side as a cross-flow? Dura-tec is the opposite side so requires more mod's.

It was the story i read on on a forum which passified my 'more power'..
The opinion was the crossflow had 'somthing' about it..
I must admit.. I think its fast enough for me..
Having had it sideways a few times - more power would have
had me in trouble i think..

Maybe a bit of nitro boost for overtaking lol...

I would leave the nitrous alone lol!!

It will only end in pain believe me. You end up in a never ending spiral of just a bit more funny Gas and then eventually bang!!! Even with progressive controller and the rest of the set-up. It will cost you in the end.

I talk from experience!!

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A XFLOW !!!!

Shouting over, KISS = keep it simple, and the xflow setup is probably the most simple setup you can have

If you were to change your engine for anything else, you will need to end up going down the ECU/megasquirt etc option
throttle bodies, and numerous other bits to contend with, and im sure you will miss a good part of the year as will be in bits

So, if it was my, i would enjoy having a roadworthy car, enjoy the sunny weather, and over this year collect all the bits to upgrade your car over next winter

Me, im just building another xflow engine up, and will transplant it in a couple of hours over the next couple of weeks
I am staying with the xflow option,

Steve

Yes... I agree... There is nothing wrong with a Xflow engine.

I had a Viento with a Rover V8 with a few goodies on it (Hot Cam / head job Big 4 barrel carb etc), and it went very well indeed (O-60, 5Sec)
I used to travel to shows with Rusty Nuts. He drives a Locost with a 1600 X-Flow in it.

Now whilst I could always out accelerate and out top speed him with my V8, I got a bit of a shock about 3 years ago.
We went to a meeting of the East Anglian Mob at Diss.
I first noticed how sweet his engine was sounding. On the open road, I notice how much more I had to try to out acceleerate him.
Whilst I still had the upper hand (I had approx 180-200Bhp) it turned out that the marked improvement in his car was due to a set of Motorbike throttle bodies and an Emerald ECU, all properly set up. It made a HUGE difference to the car.
It sounded nicer, it went quicker and evidently was smoother as well.

So... the moral of the story is simple, with some minor well thought out modifications you can make a better and more driveable car.
An engine change is a lot of work, and will yield results. But Mods can be done piecemeal, and give good results as well.

Just my 2d's worth.

I was thinking of changing my xflow, but have decided to stick with it as the cost for all the bits do mount up!
Rather than Niros, try a set of bike carbs I have a set from DanST (on this forum) and they are great, but will need fine tuning on a rolling road.

I keep thinking about upgrading my engine.

Currently running a twincam, probably then least tuneable engine every produced by ford. It has 110 bhp at the flywheel calculated and that is good fun but I really fancy an ST170.

If I can get one with an ECU etc should be a relatively easy swap but it never gets past the thinking about it stage. Too busy having fun with what I have.

Agree with previous sentiments tho Leave it til next winter and get out and have some fun with what you have.

A bad day in the kit is better than a good day in the tip top.

Totally agree. If I know its gonna be dry I take mine to work even tho its been -2 with frost and 630am in the morning. Yes its cold but come home time (215pm) its warmed up and the drive home is great.

Do you still have ears, nose and fingers when you get there?

Have been known to do the same. Have left my house with clear skies but cold got half way to work and encoutered fog That was interesting, mind you people did see me as my foglight is rather bright.
