New Boy - looking for a Low Cost Locost !
BahnStormer - 11/10/04 at 04:49 PM

Hi All,

I have decided that I'm having a mid-life crisis and 'need' a Roadster to get me out of it !!!!!

Was looking to spend £3 to £4K on one.

Does anyone have any ideas on where I can look, or any tips for a first time buyer ?

Cheers,

BS

Hi BahnStormer,

With your budget you could build yourself a decent car, that way you'll get much closer to what you want.

If you want a ready built car, the 2 mags Which Kit and Kit Car are always full of them, bound to be some near you. As for which make of car to go for I woudl say that you need to look at a few different ones first. Come along to a show where you will get to compare different cars close up. Also IMHO the build quality is probably more important than the specific make/model of car.

PS - I would recomend an MK Indy, but then I would wouldn't I!

If you buy a delux kit from MK, GTS, Luego etc, with all the extras, you could keep to you budget and be on the road in about 6 months

Hi mate,
If your after a track use car then have a chat to procomp about an LA Gold, it may be within the pricerange if the spec is correct. Otherwise for alround use a striker would be a sylva striker would be a very good option, i know people who got them on the road in basic spec for around £4.5, still whip the average locost in the handling stakes.

Food for thought anyway...

Thanks All,

My house doesnt have a garage, so hope to buy a finished kit and store under a tarp in summer , and Dad's garage in the winter (He doesn't know it though !).

Currently drive a RallyeGolf which is a lot of fun - but need somethin ludicrous to hoon about in so I thought a seven might be the answer !!!!

Cheers,

Ended up with a Caterham 7 Crossflow - what a machine - can't believe I spent all those years being into VW Golfs !!!

Yes - just about any 7 will beat the average tin-top for handling!
