light weight uprights.
JoelP - 28/10/04 at 08:59 PM

on chat just now, several people were saying they were interested in getting some lightweight alloy/ally uprights and hubs. anyone either know a good source, or a company that would sort a bulk discount? please speak up if you are interested.

Well done joel!

Think Darren @ GTS was working on doing some. Well he had drawings and ideas at his house anyway i seem to remember. That was sometime ago.. so you never know, he might just have got them made!

Something like this

Macspeedy had the link for some outfit that was at donny that did universal non handed ones but they were pricey I will ask him when he returns from his jollydays.

http://www.raceleda.co.uk/kits.htm

no need to spend 1500 quid...

this isnt the same or as light maybe, but at one 5th the price is a good start.

phelpsa - 29/10/04 at 08:28 AM

£295, we could see about group buys, might get it down a bit lower!

MNR are doing the raceleda ones with hubs and brakes for £850 ish, Cortina replacemants but raceleda are working on some Sierra replacements as well.

marc n - 29/10/04 at 09:37 AM

we are raceleada distributors

we would do a deal if three sets where bought we would do £445 inc vat for full front upright set including alloy hubs £ normally £464 inc vat

or £329 inc vat for just the uprights

The discs are cast iron but have lightening holes in the mounting face so are considerably lighter than the standard ones

How much lighter are the aly ones in comparison to the standard ones. I believe fisher (fury) do an aly hub which i would imagine could be used with the race leda upright.

ally hubs are available from lots of places. i too am curious as to the weight advantage of an ally upright over standard cortina.

the other thing i'm curious about is discs with seperate ally bells as this would save a lot of weight from a standard cortina disc.

I know many think it's over braking, but i still like the idea of a version based on the capri 2.8i vented disc too

The 'Contact us' form on the raceleda site doesn't seem to be working? Any other way of contacting them?

Weight wise, a saving of 15kg has been seen off the both wheels (7.5kg a side) *just* by using lightweight discs, ali hubs, and alloy calipers instead of standard Cortina stuff.

All unsprung weight too, so the benefit is two fold...

Northy - 29/10/04 at 08:21 PM

I could be interested in a group but of Cortina stuff.

marc n - 29/10/04 at 08:44 PM

hi graham
forgot to say these are the corina replacements
the sierra ones will be available mid jan

marc

JoelP - 29/10/04 at 08:51 PM

i myself am not bothered wether they were sierra or cortina replacement, cos i would design the car around it.

thats a nice price marc. Whats missing between that and the setup thats £850 on your site? is it just the alloy calipers and the discs and pads?

marc n - 29/10/04 at 09:08 PM

yes that is minus the discs and calipers
