Hi,
yet another newbie I'm afraid. Couple of questions...
Which locosts are considered to be the best finished/best built, theres bound to be a few that are a cut above the rest. I'd like to see just how
good a locost can be if done perfectly.
Secondly, how good is the original book-described chassis? I am planning to build a Seven replica in summer and am torn between buying a kit or
building a Locost, the locost would have much more funds available to finish it as I wouldn't have to fork out for the chassis. However, as I
will be putting a highly tuned motor in it, I need to know how a home build (to a v.high standard) chassis would compare with an over the counter
example from Westfield/Dax/Etc. Has there been any stress tests on the standard design? Is it possible to build a chassis to the same (or superior)
standards as the big kit-car manufacturers?
Thank you very much.
fozzies car,without doubt.
Well thats just my opinion
AaaWww ta Bob
I feel somewhat humble!
I think she will look even more sleek, when the newly designed bonnet half goes on.
ATB fozzie
The body on fozzies car does look first class, well up with the best.
Dax turn out some good ideas but don't get mentioned on here much.
The construction of the chassis is very much down to the welding, the chasiss themselves are very similar (too similar,as some well paid lawyers will
tell you) the Locost chassis can be improved greatly with a few extra tubes (Cue Cymtriks!)
So in the end you have to ask yourself:-
How good a welder am I?
BTW some of the "big players" in seven manufacturer use casual labour for welding, so you might be better than them!
Cheers
Chris
BTW I think the best Locost was the yellow one that won Locost of the year in 2002 at Newark, can't remember the lads name now!
That yelow one was ok chris but fozzies makes it look like a robin hood, and as for chassis foz was lucky as its the or one of the last book chassis to come out of MK.
yup the lads at mk sure made me a good 'book' chassis and roll cage!
I hope my body work etc does the chassis and roll cage justice!
Fozzie
It do !!
Jason
as for chassis made for power, ask Hicost
I agree, fozzies car does look amazingly tidy! There isn't a loose wire in site, where do you tuck them away frozzie?! Did you build the roll
cage yourself, full cages often look like a load of scaffolding just dumped onto the chassis but yours looks very neat.
A couple of the other nice ones, unfortunetly, have recently come to grief in the nasty winter road conditions. Another car that rings a bell being
very nice is a bright green and black car which I think has a kawasaki engine. Anyone know who I mean?
Andy
They are there Andy, honest!
The lovely guys at MK made my roll cage, as it is supposed to be a racer! LOL
I spoke to them and they appreciated my err, ahem 'uniqueness' and made me that gorgeous roll cage.
Fozzie
As for the best MK indy i've seen it has to be "zetecs" he really has finished it off nicely and puts me to shame.
there are loads of well built and tidy looking cars on this forum but its all down to your own ability, ideas and how high your standards are
yup, I missed seeing that the last time Zetec went to Newlands But sure looks good in Zetecs photo archive!
fozzie
Wow, those three (Fozzie's, Zetec's and Hicost's) look fantastic, now I know that it can be done to such a high standard, I'm
definately going the Locost way.
So we reckon that the rigidity/quality of the chassis depends as much on the standard of the welding as on the basic design. So if I find a Locost
chassis plan, possibly modified from book-spec, with a proven race track record and make sure my welding's top notch - we're on to a
winner!
Cheers folks.
