So having decided I am pulling it of the road this week end to start the winter upgrades I thought I would have one last cheeky drive to work.
On the way home I turned into a junction as the wing stay snapped and locked the front wheel up 
I guess it was just a matter of time. As a silver lining maybe some carbon ones are needed 
but I think I will give the whole thing thing a dam good
going over.

See it as an upgrade potential ? Carbon is the way forward 
Isn't carbon lighter, therefore less stress on the mounting, therefore less likely to break and lock the wheel, therefore a necessary safety "fix" and not an un necessary upgrade?
Which version of the mk wing stays was it? I think the later one are tubular and less likely to break.
Mine broke 3 times in 1000 miles, they got replaced with thicker plates and bars when I fitted CF wings, been OK for 10000 miles since

The bottom halfs are tubular the tops are flat 3mm bar bent around the wheel. It's in the haz where is broken. Same place they all go. Trouble is its then grabbed the mudguard and bent the round tubing around the caliper.
That's same as mine. No issues so far for me fortunately. Been half expecting it though.
Good timing would have forced you off the road after winter mods if it had hung on any longer

It's done a 8000+ miles on my car, with no sign of breaking. I know not everyone will like it, but I prefer practicality over fancy looks.
Neat solution - mine have been on for 12 years / 5k miles and still going strong though.
Mine broke a few years ago, so, I made the replacements much stronger, 19mm drawn tubing 2.5mm wall, my mate uses it on steam engines, and 25mm x 5mm flat bar fittings and ends. They are not much heavier, but no longer vibrate, and show no signs of fatigue.
