dilemma..
Dillinger1977 - 15/3/05 at 10:25 AM

I have narrowed my list down to 2 potential projects to choose from, and am wondering what other people would choose.

Im currently trying to decide between a Part finished westfield project with zetec engine, or a brand new BEC locost kit. They will both cost roughly the same to complete.
I want something that will be quick on the track, and good for some country driving.

Here are my current pros (+) and cons (-)

Semi complete Westfield:
+local to me (same town)
+rolling chassis with engine installed
+has more 'prestige' if i wanted to sell. (and will maybe sell for more than completion cost)
+good car engine (2.o zetec)
+fast completion so on road quicker.

cons:
-not overly keen on the colour the current owner chose. (white body, red wings)
considering the option of spraying the wings black.
-i'd have to check everything thats been done to get a feel for how it works myself, and i wouldnt really have much help if anything went wrong.
-jumping into the middle of someone elses build could potentially be more confusing that starting from scratch.. (I've never done one before)

BEC locost (MNR or Mac1)
+insanely fast (perhaps too fast!?)
+engines seem to be easier to work with
+satisfaction of building my own/choosing style

cons
-slower, more intimidating build
-even less practical in terms of recreational use

one option ive thought of is to get the westy and finish it, then sell it on for a bit of profit and use the money to build a BEC locost. I might even find that the westy is perfectly acceptable for what I want it for and decide to keep it.. its a tricky choice!

what would you do?

one thing i would consider is the cost of certain bits from westfield, it can turn a project into a PROJECT!

Why not build the Westy, run it for the summer and do a BEC transplant and paint job in the winter?

marcus: yup, thats looking like the easiest option, if i can find a decent zetec ignition/injection system for under 2 grand.. :O

Andy d: I see you've decided on a BEC vortx! how are you finding the build so far?

(edit) heh ive just looked and its factory built!
is there anyone here making a vortx from kit?
