Took my wife out for her first major journey last Saturday (to the East Anglian get-together), and it was soon apparent that we needed some form of
intercom between us. This was mostly due to a lack of a windscreen, plus bike helmets!
Can anyone suggest a system that (a) works, (b) doesn't cost a fortune, and (c) doesn't involve major re-wiring?
cheers,
David
lidl had an offer a few weeks back of a cheap one for £5
ebay is now full of them since tons of folk obviously decided they were on to a winner by buying stacks of them!
they go for about 8-10 quid on ebay now. search for TRONIC.
i got one, but havent tried it yet. cant really complain for that much cash can you?
How about a lenght of string with a cup attached to each end.
How low cost do you want to go?

Someone in the office did mention the old light aircraft system - a length of rubber tube with one end stuck in your ear, with someone shouting down
the other end!
I remember using that as a passenger in an ex-WW2 Piper Cub - it worked, IIRC.

I got one and its a cracker
I picked up a couple in our local Lidl late last week, they still had them in at a fiver even though they were meant to be a one week special a coulple of weeks ago.
will have a look in lidl tonight if i get a chance - if they have any left do you want one Dave ?
I havent tried mine yet, the earpiece looks like its a bit of an odd shape to get on under a tight lid, but its only a standard 3.5mm jack so Im sure you could raid Maplins or somewhere similar and sort out a better earpiece / mic setup for not much cash if needs be.
Ive fitted a omp JA 800 to mine, not as low cost as above, but not bad at £45 +vat from www.raldes.co.uk 01795 531871,it fits into helmets and works
very well ,no wiring, I run mine on rechargable batteries.
cheers Paul
Alternatively there is this
Maplins Linky
only £19.99 and we now have a Maplins Store in Ipswich... >>update>> currently 4 in stock at Ipswich

I would have thought there was a distinct advantage in not being able to hear the wife for a while?
Ive got an OMP one as well, this one in the
DT
Catalogue although it was nowhere near as expensive as that, I think I paid about £35-40 for it. Its pretty good although the earpieces are a
bit of a pain to fit into some helmets, they really need to go behind the lining and stay there.
I bought the cheap Lidl as well just cos its so cheap and I thought I might be able to use better earphones for it.

If anyone sees one in Lidl can they get me one? we don't have a store near here
Thanks for the Tip....
Just got one off Ebay for £4.99, cheaper than me driving to Lidl in the next town even taking into account the postage v Diesel / Time factor.
Thanks a bundle... Now I need to modify it to work with the rest of my kit..
Some of the lads on blatchat bought a few sets incase anybody wanted them and missed out. Might be worth a sniff over there as i'm sure the
caterham boys would be willing to help out a fellow 7 owner

Just to add my two penneth, i have a chatterbox intercom , absolutely crystal clear till about 60mph after that forget it,also it is very sensitive and picks up the induction from the carbs which can get on your wick after a bit. Communicate by hand its easier.
