I got the electrics sorted out last week. No hitches whatsoever. Digidash2 is fantastic. Savage switches are superb.
Connected fuel up this week, found small fuel leak on accelerator pump which has been temporarily repaired.
Checked ignition - works first time following James wiring advice.
Car fired up last night on first attempt and sounds fantastic. Cant run for too long as i havent connected cooling system but very pleased so far. It
is a fantastic feeling. A major landmark passed with no major problems.
Many thanks to everyone who has helped with advice / inspiration.
well done mate, always a good moment in the build!
well done Darren, its a real boost the first time it runs. I worked twice as hard once I knew I was on the home straight.
Mike
well done mate..im so jealous i could scream..
I was overjoyed last night. The feeling was unreal. Iam not the most athletic of people but i was running around the garden like a complete loon.
Spent the rest of the night texting and on phone.
i did have a small mishap to confess. At first i had some good misfires and blow back thro carb. Scratching of head and quick timing check showed that
i had connected plug leads 1-2-3-4!!!!!! Quick change to 1-3-4-2 and it fired straight up and that was without any choke (non fitted).
I cant believe how nice the exhaust note sounds - it is like a carcophony of sweet beautiful thunder mixed with the raor of purebred Lion.
What makes it even more nicer is the lighting sequence that the DD2 goes through when you first turn the key - pure brilliance.
Did i tell anyone that i got the car started last night??????................

i finally fixed my lawn mower the other day, and had a similar moment when it fired up! that was harder than getting the pinto started, cos the mower was buggered!
Well done Darren!
I'm with Hellfire on this one - getting the engine running has been the defining moment of my build so far
I walked around with one of theses fo a very long time afterwards, which only got bigger when I drove the car for the first time
Nick
Well done Darren
congratulations Darren, createing something in your garage at home then bringing it to life is a real buzz. Hope the rest of your build gives you as much enjoyment. well done that man
Nice one. Just done the same last week. Feels good doesn't it?
Good luck with the rest of it.
Cheers
Jon
Thanks everyone. Im still buzzing. The 38DGAS sprung a leak cos the accelerator pump diaphragm had perished. Fitted a new one tonight, problem solved
and it stills fires up. It even ticked over tonight, iam so chuffed. Sounds so sweet.
Ive just trimmed the bonnet to length and cut it out for the exhaust, its really starting to come together. Ive just realised that if i get the
cooling system piped up and fit the other wheels (13" RS's) i can drive it.............boy am i getting nervous now. If i had £500 pocket
money available i could get car ready for SVA in about a month!!!!!!!!!!! Scary
One question i have - Iamgetting blowback thro the carb, wife was a little scared when she saw a quick flame blowback. Is this just the result of
needing to tune timing and fuelling setup???? I have only static tuned so far, and that will be only roughly at best cos ive never done this
before.
Thanks again,
Darren.
