hi all. Im thinking of what diff to use for my next project, so i have a few questions!

Has anyone used a quaife ATB diff, and are they worth the money if the car is going to be driven hard?

Im also looking for a VERY light diff that can take 200bhp (min), are there any suitable production car diffs (ally maybe?) or would i be best going to a specialist? Muffet gears do a diff, but they dont seem to market it as light, and they dont say whether there is space for an LSD insert.

Im thinking i need a proper race parts supplier.

And whilst im here, does anyone supply off the shelf ally rear hub carriers/uprights etc, or indeed ally rear hubs, and is magnesium a suitable material for any of this? I know wheels get made from it, but havent seen it used much elsewhere. What about titanium?

Obviously all this lot would be expensive, but i want this next one to be cutting edge where possible.

You could use single seater uprights, there's plenty about second hand.

I'm seriously thinking about an ATB diff for next season - I've been talking to some of the real fast hill climb guys and most of them seem to use them.

I think it's more important to get the power you have down properly than have more power (if that makes sense)

cheers chaps. Ive been browsing the ads on the racecar forum, but no joy there yet. Ive been thinking of approaching one of our members about getting custom stuff made, but its the diff i need to sort first...

so, what about a supplier of a lightweight diff?

What you want is a RWD Elan magnesium diff housing fitted with the alloy diff carrier and the good old Ford English diff. You'll have a choice of ATB or plate slippers and a wide range of ratios too.

£400 for the housing, £315 for the carrier, £400 for the diff itself, and finally, £145 for each of the output shafts. Nice.

Or you could just use a Sierra one.

For rear uprights etc give Dermot Healy a ring, his cellars full of old racecar crap.

Dermot Healy is a racecar recycling chap who would dearly love to part you from your cash. He has a veritable cornucopia of crap waiting to temp you into a purchase.

What about a Freelander diff? Fisher, Raw and alike seem to use it quite often. Quaife make an ATB diff for it aswell.
