Locost builder age
andyd - 1/12/05 at 09:13 AM

Just curious as to the various ages of the locost builders currently frequenting this site. You might be building something a little different other than a "book" car but that's ok. You may also just be a browser but again that's ok too. Tell us which age bracket you fall into to just for a bit of fun.

Hi

Im 22 and last year I had a nissan swb 300zx Twin turbo..

it cost me 3500 pounds to insure,, quick beautiful attractive car etc etc

I then phoned up adrian flux to insure an r1 indy..... I mean whats the performance gonna be about late 3's early 4's to 60mph..

they then said they would insure me for 420 quid

I think its a great loophole in the market to exploit!!

Oh and I only have 1 ncb

but i have never claimed in the 4-5 years...

Well ok there's a hole in my categories... read the "Under 20" as "20 or under"

Mark Allanson - 1/12/05 at 11:30 AM

Where do all these youngsters get £250 from anyway!

Student loan is one good source (thank god i'm not at home or all 4 years worth of loan would have been spent on the car by now).

quattromike - 1/12/05 at 07:42 PM

I'm an impresive 23. Impresive because when i started driving people told me I wouldn't make it past 20.
But I'm stil here.
kinda reminds me of a classic jonny cash song he did with chris christopherson "but I will remain,I'll be back again, an again, an again..."

OX - 2/12/05 at 01:34 AM

31 with a few grey hairs allready ffs

andyd - 2/12/05 at 09:33 AM

Well that's all very interesting isn't it?!

Seems like most of us are getting to that mid-life crisis and building sporty cars (or trying to).

Didn't mention that I'm one month today off being 36. As I've not even started to design my new chassis I doubt I'll get anything finished before I'm 40! Hell, I may not even start before I'm 40!

phelpsa - 2/12/05 at 07:21 PM

I'm 14 and started my build at 13.

907 - 2/12/05 at 08:31 PM

I'm getting too old to ride a bike,
so I thought I'd build a "nice iccle car" to pootle about in.

Anyone want to buy a bike?

Only if it's a Raleigh Chopper (original not the revised "PC" version).

Use it as a donor for your iccle car.

907 - 3/12/05 at 06:37 PM

Mmmmm,

that would have been an option I must admit.

But it's worth getting on for 2k, an expensive way to get an engine.

Anyway, I love my Lotus, and the day will come when I'd have to insure
& tax 3 vehicles so the bike has to go.

Ahh... Well... I am 19.... Err thats STONES (lots of lb's)
True age is 53 in March.

Had my mid-life crisis a few years ago..
Built Two Land Rovers from the concrete upwards. Last one was a coil sprung special.

www.g0ddx.co.uk

I have always wanted a V8 car of some sorts... nearly put a V8 in the last Landy.. Would have been awesome.

Decided to sell up and build a 2 seater... Havent had one since I was about 19.. a RED (cos they are faster) Triumph 1200cc Spitfire.
Geat for pulling the birds... Sod all use for anything else. Couldnt fit a crate of brown Ale in the boot (Thats when they were in Wooden Crates)

Got blasted off the road by everyone in a Mk1 Cortina and above. But it LOOKED GOOD.

So this time... Its going to go well.
250Bhp in 600Kgs should be enough for a bit of fun..

Previous Landy had a Ford 2.8V6 in it and went really well... blasted the local Chavs Nova off the road.. but wasnt that fast... Now he is older he has something better... but not as good as a Viento

StevieSuperSeven - 12/12/05 at 10:46 PM

Hhmm my age range seems to be the most common (I'm 27), although technically I'm a locost dreamer rather than builder for the moment so do I really count??

Danozeman - 13/12/05 at 06:57 AM

Im the ripe old age of 23. Been trying to build a car since i was 16. Got the chassis half done and gave up. No i should be done by the time im 24. Just before im a dad.

David Jenkins - 13/12/05 at 08:19 AM

I wonder how much these poll results are skewed by the computer factor - by this I mean that to participate in this poll you have to be a Locost builder AND a computer enthusiast.

I suspect that there are a lot of older builders who have no interest in the interweb... I know several.

rgds,
David

andyd - 13/12/05 at 05:02 PM

That's true David but it was only meant to be a reflection on those that frequent this site. As you say the younger among us are more likely to surf this site.

Pretty pointless statistically but interesting nonetheless.

Simon - 13/12/05 at 08:22 PM

I'll be 40 next July, which I find quite depressing.

Means I've still got 27 years till I retire. All cos Gordon Brown started taxing pension funds.
