Hey guys,
Some fine examples of locosts on this site but now I would like to see some of the low budget builds. Not necessarily low quality builds, just ones
where as many donor parts were used etc. I already have project toys on the go but I need a somewhat entertaining, somewhat economical daily driver.
Ive decided on a 2.3L lima powered locost because they are a bit heavy, but readily available here (sounds like some girls I know ). It wont be
fast, but if I want fast thats what the toys are for. I think with some wheeling and dealing I could put this car together reasonably well for a
affordable price.
Anyhow, lets see what you have and what you've spent on it.
Thanks guys.
Have you got a bigger pic of that woman!
I'd happily blow some of my budget on her!
My locost is now a hi-cost... my original budget was circa £3k.
It's now £5k with £1k to go :-(
BUT - she's worth every penny, just like I imagine that girl in your photo is!
I got on the road for about £3000 which includes £185 for SVA, £170 Road Tax and £238 Insurance - all of which are compulsory costs.
I could have done it cheaper if I hadn't made one or two "purchasing errors" on the way

I'm hopefully gonna be on the road for £4 - 4.5 ish.
And I'm using some top components like ST paddle shift and 4 pot billet calipers.
It's all a matter of doing it all yourself - even the shitty jobs that take up loads of time.
Pat...
It would seem that only one has ever been built for £250, and they used that to name "The Book". Between 3 and 4K seems to be the norm.
Heh, You brits sure seem to like that chick, must be the pale skin . Ya its "tiffany teen" but any pics of her are going to be NSFW so
don't have wifey looking over your shoulder. Or do, doesn't matter to me . Good looking girl in front of my favorite road sign was a
perfect avatar for me.
Anyhow, I figured 3000-3500GBP (roughly $7000Cdn). Glad to see Im in the right area. I am an automotive mechanic by trade so I have access to more
stuff for less than most. Only locost type parts I was planning on buying was a +4 nose, and the fenders (wings)
Any more input is appreciated.
Cheers.
PS: Maiden rules!
I'm not sure anyone is making +4" bodywork (maybe GTS), no one was when I did mine, so I had to make the lot.

Still using the 13" Sierra steel wheels and dials etc. Me and a mate built at the same time and shared materials and cut costs that way, order 6
sheets of metal and the price comes down.

Guys, stop it, you are starting to scare me.
I budgeted the build at what I thought was a realistic cost of about £2.5K, somehow I don't think I am going to make it.
Same old story, lighter, shinier etc. Change this, change that.
Excuse for more tools etc.
I know someone in the Locost owners club claimed a build cost of £47.50!
Can any one top, or should I say undercut that?
Hey C10CoryM, I'm located in Vancouver BC too. i haven't looked at the hard numbers yet, but I'm probably about $4000 to $5000 CDN into
it so far. Hope to have it on the road for the summer. Here is my online build photo gallery:

Mark.
Can it be done for CHEEP?
Yeah, beg, borrow, barter, and steal!
Trade services to others for parts (nothing dirty guys)...all second hand or hand built stuff. Uncle Ron bench seat....ugly rims...repaired or second
hand figerglass peices or hand built.
I think you would have to have a locost challenge with a time dead line and a ceiling cost. Which ever team builds cheapest in a fixed time
frame wins the cost of the car (or bragging rights).

I budgeted about 3 grand. Its cost me around 4 so far. By the time its on the road i reckon itle be 4.5 to 5.
Locost yeah right!!
Is this the same girl?
Sorry to nick the thread but this is very important!!

Yep same girl.
Hubba Hubba!
Donut! ACE
FlakMonkey - a true gent as always - I shall be er.. googling her later
Murray
She's on the checkout in our KwikSave, 3 kids all with different dads very friendly girl .
My Striker would not be classed as budget anymore and just my BGH gearbox, Omex 710 ECU and Raceline 4.44:1 diff would blow a lot of the budgets
mentioned.
Then again I've traded my IT/PC skills in payment for them so to me the cost has been time not cash
The car that was claimed to have been made for under £50 was a scrapyard owner - no further explaination needed
I built my car for about £1200 on the road, which, I think, means I win
Cheers
Chris
I have close to $2000 cnd in mine so far but the bodywork still has to be done. I figure its about half way through the costs so far. Turbocharger
rebuild may ad a touch to that though.
Dale
I entend to break the record and builded for 1000 euros i HOPE
it should be easy to build a car for 2.5K.
But for this money its gonna be a proper book locost.
Most of the guys spending 4-6K are building kit cars .Luego, MK, ST etc.
They will be finished a LONG time before you, but you pays your money & takes your choice!
Thanks guys.
Simon, I had ASS-umed that there was +4 noses. I emailed a couple places and looks like they just use the same nose and widen the body. Probably
what I will do.
Mainlandboy, Good to know. I will probably bug you a bit once I get started buying/building stuff .
I intend to make this car from ground up with a low budget but still retaining decent quality. What that means to me is no fancy materials. Just
mild steel and mig welded (might tig it though) but also have a planned colour scheme and OK fit and finish. If I do things right I can spend about
20-25hrs per week on the car. That give me enough time to clean up the rough bits. I think I can make a real LOW-cost locost and still be
presentable. Assuming of course I control myself and don't blow the budget like I usually do . My toys budgets are basically whatever is in
my bank account.

GTS Tuning deffinately do the full +4 bodywork to fit their new W7DE kit.
Most of it would fit any +4 chassis although maybe not the side panels, give them a call or e-mail.
guys we're going wildly off topic here - show me more pics of the lovely young lady and stop worrying about the cost

Hey C10, there is a place in Langley that makes a +4 nose and scuttle . Might save you some money and it looks pretty good with the lower spoiler. I
am thinking about doing a plus 4 chassis myself with a Merkur or Rx7 donor.

i built my indy for $0.
it was all in pounds sterling, unfortunately about seven thousand of them.
