Pedal boxes

Overslung or floor mounted, which is best for someone with size 11 feet? Is there much to chose? I have one from a Mk2 Escort and a Citroen BX ('cos I was scrapping it and thought 'why not?') and will make something out of these two, probably plus some other bits. Anybody else made their own?

Yes, 10.5 feet, from a very cut down old nissan micra box, nice and light. Pictures in archive.

That is some pedal box, Jasper!

How big's the car?

Cheers

Hi Jasper,

What type suits you? Have you tried both o/hung and floor-mounted for personal ergonomics? Meaning - will your ankle pivot sufficiently to achieve adequate pedal travel?
For me, floor-mounted feels uncomfortable; pendant style pedals (e.g. o/hung) suit my foot action. Also, with floor-mounted pedals, the mcyl is fitted low down, so remote type brake fluid reservoirs will have to be fitted (to provide sufficient head for bleeding the system).

Am adapting 2ndh Westie pedal box, because the Capri version was too bl**dy big & just damned ugly!!

I built a top-hung pedal box using the Escort pedals, to suit my size 11 feet. The brake & clutch pedals are sandard, but the accelerator only has the top 2 or 3 inches from the original (to allow the cable to fit).

I built a prototype using thin MDF, adjusting the holes until everything felt and looked right, and matched the original pedal box geometry. I then converted the measurements into steel plate.

...I might still have the drawings somewhere...

David, if you have the pictures could you email them to me or post them in your archive?

I'm building up as much info about all bits of the car as poss and designing a pedal box sort of fits in with me redesigning the chassis...

I went hanging pedals cos it was easier to do using a donor, I just cut the pedals shorter and changed the angle. Also didn't want the hassle of remote reservoirs.

I tried modifying the Sierra pedal box, but it looked really tall and cumbersome. I ended up hanging the clutch and brake pedal (from a Fiat Uno) on two plates using the original shaft. The accelerator pedal came from the Sierra. It's not as difficult as it seems.
