INDY BIRD - 18/3/06 at 10:16 PM

Not sure but i think this is a friend of my brothers in essex and that looked like north weald air drome??

Could not be 100% sure but he developed this car and was on the stand at last years auto sport show birmingham .

Awesome is all i can say

omega 24 v6 - 18/3/06 at 10:38 PM

I posted a thread about this engine after this years show. It is a beautifull bit of gingerbeering and thers was on in a seven with a quote of around 770 bhp/ton

Ferrino - 18/3/06 at 10:55 PM

RST-V8

Engine is actually based on 2 * Yamaha R1.

DIY Si - 18/3/06 at 11:24 PM

Quite a fan of the 104lbs/ft at a mere 1,500 rpm! And 190lbs/ft at 7,800 rpm

Are you lot pissed tonight?

nitram38 - 19/3/06 at 12:22 AM

The engine is ok if you have a spare £17K that you have just lying about

JoelP - 19/3/06 at 11:06 AM

there is one that uses two hayabusas, is it called cyclone or somesuch?

Actually the powertec RPA v8 is the one im thinking of. Search for powertecengineering, or radical sportscars.

GeorgeL - 19/4/06 at 06:37 PM

Haha, you wouldn't be able to do that with a R1 engine thats for sure. Grunty.

JoelP - 19/4/06 at 08:42 PM

i got an email back from powertec, it came to a phenominal amount of money, and you have to pay extra for a warrantee!

check this:

engine (430bhp) £22750
twin plate clutch £650
induction £2350
engine management £2800
exhaust £1400
oil tank, bellhousing etc £1340
30 hour warrantee £850

total, £32140.

flak monkey - 19/4/06 at 08:52 PM

And only a 30 hour waranty.

I can think of better things to spen £32k on myself. Infact you could probably build a car that quick for less than that, quite easily.

I notice in the video that he seems to get wheelspin in every gear. So i ask whats the point in that much power? Its obviously not all useable!

Triton - 19/4/06 at 09:10 PM

There is a clever bloke near Rugby that kick started all this V8 bike engined stuff...famous name in grass track and drag racing, bikes of course
The man in question is a genius and has none of this new fangled cnc malarky...proper engineering

DIY Si - 19/4/06 at 10:40 PM

£32k! Soooooo amny better things to do with that much money. Would pay off a nice chunk of my mortgage for a start!
Just out of curiosity, how do they check a 30hr warranty? Surely it doesn't wear enough to be noticed in 30 hrs?!

Liam - 19/4/06 at 10:54 PM

I bet it does!! Wouldn't be surprised if the thing needs a rebuild after 30 hours of hard use. Lovely though they are, these things are totally rediculous for anything other than decent budget racing.

Might weigh twice as much but give me an LS1 any day. 400 bhp all day every day for a few K

Liam

GeorgeL - 20/4/06 at 06:28 AM

Induction and ecu must bloody gold plated. Bloody cossie engines can be done for a fraction of that. Ok no where near as advanced, but a turbo busa or even a s/c vtec would all be soo much cheaper!

cossey - 20/4/06 at 09:57 AM

its design for capacity limited class racing. so while it might be alot cheaper to get the same power it is very hard to get the same power from that capacity. 430bhp out of 3l is quite alot (or the equivalent of 430bhp out of a 1750cc turbo).

i dont understand the longevity though as the spec isnt that far past a normal busa so 30 hours between rebuilds is pathetic. if it was based on a high revving litre engine then it would be more understandable but it doesnt rev above 10krpm so it looks abit like poor design.

ned - 20/4/06 at 11:00 AM

I bet mountune can do you a 400bhp duratec v6 for less, I know they're developing a 430bhp one at the moment for juno.
and that'd be 3 ltrs and would last a lot longer between rebuilds (well, probaby inspections tbh)

Ned.

Jasper - 20/4/06 at 12:10 PM

And you can get over 400bhp out of a 2 ltr Nissan SR20DET for about £3k plus another £1k on ancilliaries... and it will still be reliable

ned - 20/4/06 at 12:40 PM

Jasper,

How predicatble though most of the time we're comparing like for like ie naturally aspirated.

We all know how wonderful the nissan engine is along with where to get some custom driveshafts made

I know you say its cheap power - but how much will you have actualyl spent on yours with all these goodies from the states we keep hearing about?!! (and all that hose!)

Ned.

cossey - 20/4/06 at 08:07 PM

nissan is over the capacity limit for that class (3000cc with a 1.7 multiplier for turbos which means the 200sx is over by 70cc)
the duratec is very heavy, over 20kg more for just the bare engine compared to the whole engine and transmisson from powertec. the engine on its own is 75kg over the v8.

i think its very overpriced and the power outputs arent that good considering its base but i think they will get more out of it. the 1500cc busa is putting out over 25obhp so the 3l v8 should be doubling it once its properly sorted. 500bhp from 92kg is better than almost anything out there this side of gp2/f1
