short clips of my mates busa fury
ned - 24/5/06 at 09:27 AM

Some of you may recall some pics i posted of a friend of mine who's converted a crossflow fury to a busa motor. He's fitted the 4 speed escort box backwards to be able to change the gear ratio's and have a reverse.

The car is now back on the road and we popped out to get some fuel last night...

Sorry the clips are short, my digital camera doesn't do longer ones

Ned.

ps he modded the rear prop to be a modified lobro driveshaft rather than a pair of close uj's. we shall see how long it lasts.

that looks seriously quick!

trifield - 24/5/06 at 11:03 AM

Wouldn't play for me at first, so clicked on 'view all videos', then clicked on 'back' in my browser and video played!

ned - 24/5/06 at 11:09 AM

works in ie here though james has had trouble aswell. I think it needs some activex thing to run so could be security settings need setting to 'prompt' or somesuch for running activex controls (mine prompts me to runs ctivex controls on the page). probably in options>security or advanced.

its got revo's on at the moment. we did think about getting some bigger wheels/tyres but decided loosing traction was better than loosing the transmission..

Works OK for me. How fast were you allegedly going NED???????????

JonBowden - 24/5/06 at 12:22 PM

Got it working now. I think the site was just overloaded

Nice car! Shakey videos, i guess you didnt want to mount your camera solidly to the roll bar again!

So does the backwards gearbox work for reverse?

ned - 24/5/06 at 12:59 PM

yes car goes forwards and backwards in numerours ratio's. clutch is a bit tricky he says (typial bec from my experience) and light throttle application is a bit twitchy. Speedo isn't working so no idea of speed but could prob work it out if i had to if i knew what gear we were in! you can change the car box whilst moving so it cruises at low rpm, worked quite well considering. he had to solidly mount the car box in the end as it was just twisting violently on the rubber he originally hd it on.

Ned.

ps this one might give an indication of the clutch operation and lack of traction:

nice to se a more road orientated bec

i had a ride in the black furybusa that was built in ppc a couple of weeks back and even only using 7krpm due to noise problems that was quick.

ned - 24/5/06 at 01:34 PM

engine is fully mounted on rubbers and the prop has a rubber vibration/torque reduction doodah

Ned.

zak - 31/5/06 at 09:25 AM

excuse my ignorance but why did he mount the car gearbox backwards? and what about drivetrain loss through the car gearbox?

other then that looks bloody good

Simon - 31/5/06 at 11:53 PM

Ned,

Tell him to try clutchless changes, it'll speed him up a bit!

When he gets good, he can do clutchless down to

ATB

Simon

PS I take no responsibility for his box

car gearbox was run backwards to gain a drop gear to the rear axle. he could have used a 5 speed box the right way round but he used the 4 speed as he had it lying around. you can but it in another gear for cruising at lower rpm at speed aswell. he openly admits he has no idea how long it will last but it is locost. He's also keeping it on 185 13's to keep the traction down to aid the longevity of the transmission, the idea being it'll loose traction rather than trash/strain the transmission.

zak - 1/6/06 at 09:37 PM

would i be right in thinking that the the 4 speed will be mildly lighter then the 5 speed anyway.
by drivetrain losses i was meaning power robbed by have 2 transmissions.

thanks for your answers

ned - 1/6/06 at 10:09 PM

the 4 speed box is slightly lighter but tbh that has nothing ot do with why he used it. it was literally that he had it as it came out of the car (along with a xflow) before he converted it to the hyabusa engine.

yes there will be some tranmission losses through the car box but with 180bhp odd to start with and its only for road use he's not really bothered. its certainly quick enough as it is.
