AS above really. Is there any special bits you need to use a locost for track days?

Eg decent roll bar etc??

Obviously iv got harnesses etc but my roll bar has no back stays.

Hi a roll bar with rear stays is highly recomended. Also a good quality helmet and a pair of shoes/trainers that will enable proper use of the pedals sound obvious but you do see some comical situations cuased by improper footwear. Also be carful with the oil situation whith the engine suddenly seing more g force from the corners than it is likley to have seen before. And a oil catch/breather tank usualy min of 1 litre. For this as a tempory measure there is nothing wrong with using an old pop bottle or simalar as long as it is well secured to the car . Oh and dont forget to take your driving licence.

Spare fuel is a must!

Hi Oh yea plenty of petrol. On a good open pit lane day i usualy use 30-40 litres (1.5-2 ) jerry cans. Or find a local petrol station at dinner time. Whilst talking of petrol make shure you have a proper vent on the tank and not just an open hole somwhere as you will be black flaged for droping petrol on the circuit or worse still cause yourself or some body else to spin not to bad on an airfield day but can be damaging if on a circuit .

I used 2 tanks of fuel and 1 litre of oil at elvington. I took a litre of oil ang agerry can with me, which was lucky as I ran out on the way home

What I didn't take with me was enough courage. Cornering flat out at 70 was about my limit whereas the car just wasn't bothered and could have gone a lot faster.

Plus a Big Pair of Cahoonas

You also need your arms and legs covered. Common sense you might think but not when you have a father who only owns one pair of trousers for special ocassions such as weddings and funerals.

He needs reminding every time we do a trackday. I'm sure it's just a phase he's going through and he'll grow out of it one day. Having said that, it's been a pretty long phase of some 60 odd years upto now, so maybe not.

Is there a requirement for backstays then??

mechanical requirements are usually just limited to mot items. Some say no slicks without a full cage, but it depends on the organiser. Back stays arent essential but are a good idea.

They dont actually need an mot though do they??

ive never had mot checked, i believe they usually just want it to look mottable Thats said, no ones ever complained about my missing cycle wings.
