Hi Im new to this forum and i want to build a kit! Im looking at building an MK Indy however im opens to suggestions ive got a price range
of about 6k what you all thinking?
Cheers Chris
P.S Cheers to Andy W for a lift down to autosports Today!
I'm thinking you've made a good choice........
Go for it but make sure you fit a bike engine Easily within your budget.
Welcome to the nuthouse

Yep Bike engine any time
Cheers Chris
1st job is to start hiding money from the mrs so she dosnt know what you've spent.
No worries Im only 18.
Cheers Chris
Wait for the second book before decidining whether to build an "origianl" locost. The newer one is likely to be better than the 1st, or at least you'd hope so.
Im looking at buying a chassis although i would like to learn how to weld propperly. I had enough trouble doing the welding on my mini!
Cheers Chris
Welcome and again good choice, I see Bike engines have already been mentioned I can definatley agree with that,
Good luck.
Steve.
Good another one. I think you have got the budget right for a start. I try not to think about how much I have spent or am going to spend but you
should end up with a smart car with that.
Ever thought of doing MK's new car, the sprint? If I had the choice of doing it all over again I would go for that. Hopefully soon I will, he he.
Can I suggest you try a couple of insurance quotes before you go down the Bike route.... some of our 'younger' members have had
trouble!
Insurance companies have wised up to the BEC!
Cheers,
James
P.S. I'm being a pessimist again aren't I?
P.P.S Only relevent if you're going road legal not just a track car of course!
Yeah as others have said phone around to make sure you will be able to get insurance one your chosen car and engine combo. All of the insurance
companies are wise to the bike engines now and are charging somewhat of a premium for them.
My last quite for my car (2l pinto) was close to £500 and I am 22.
I know some insurance co's wont insure under 21s on any kit, regardless of what it is.
David
They're not too bad to insure. 22 and paying £430. However, as said, being under 21 may well be an issue. It was with tuning cars when I was that
age.
Oh, welcome to the mad house!

really, I though a kit car was alway a good bet for young drivers getting their hands on a sports car. How times have changed
When I was under 21 I had to change plans from bike to car engined as no-one would insure me...
Well, welcome aboard, me young whipper snapper of a shipmate. Plenty of room inside for new comers ! Don't forget car engines. Zetec/Duratec and Vtec engines all produce the goods too.
18 and 6 grand to blow on a car
What's the world coming to? In my day, £200 was plenty Maybe that's inflation for you.
Anyway, contrary to popular belief, the engine you want most, is a 1300 crossflow. Very simple, swap with a 1600 (bored to 1700+ when insurance is not
longer so much a problem), parts cheap.
Or a Rover V8
ATB

or buy this

and have money left for your insurance and a holiday in cancun.
Cheers for the offer but i want to build my own. Has anyone got any idea of a likely insurance company?
Cheers chris!

why this over a pinto out of curiosity?
As a new member... well today, I am selling a kit on e-bay at the moment reserve set at £3.6k:

I have a blackbird engine too that is for sale at £2.2k. Not sure if the two together are of interest??
Let me know.
If not good luck with the build, I'm gutted to be selling but moving house means no where to keep it.
£2.2k for a blackbird engine? is it gold plated?
The Blackbird engine was in my Mk b4 i went V8 i sold it all.not 2.2 for just the engine its everything else that goes with it , craddle , all electrics carbs reverse box , custom exhaust all linkages , rad prop shafts etc etc basically everything you need if you want a do a conversion

unique
Matt
Not quite a Goldplated engine but it is Diamond geezer! As Bouldy posted (saw him in the boozer last night - glad he expanded on the fact its not just
the engine!!)
Anyway, anyone reckons they know someone looking to convert they can e-mail me on: qualitychef@hotmail.com... or i'll be back to e-bay!!
