PPC review of Haynes Se7en- thoughts?

or:
Locost Book Edition 3

Without us being able to comment on the car, just wondering what people thought of the article?

Bascially seemed pretty positive, except he didn't like the 1.8Pinto used saying a Zetec would be more suitable as it's also cheap. Hah! If you can get a Zetec to run for the same money you can run the Pinto that came free with the donor you're doing better than most of us!!!
He also says that you should atleast use the 2.0 litre.
I suspect, however, that the 1.8 is the same block height as the 1.6 (ie. 1" shorter than the 2.0) so it was fitted for a good reason- it would fit easily under the bonnet!

The only thing I'm concerned about is the +2" chassis.... this strikes me as a shame as it's started another 'standard' as well as the original 'Locost' size and the +4". How is this catered for in terms of the rear wings/track and also the balance of front/rear track?

Oh well... will have to build one and see!

Well done Chris and Martin!

Gonna have to put an order in now!

Cheers,
James

as far as i'm aware, chris isn't the man behind MK Sportscars though.... or are you chris?

anyway, i'd like to see all the receipts for it! £300 exhaust system, £350 of protech shocks, not much left of that grand! i thought the 1.8 was the same height as the tall 2 litre and the e max 1.6.

still wasn't knocking it too bad, and i'll still renew my subscription

I can sort of see why they went for +2" in trying to retain the proportions of the original as much as possible. However, as you say that's just another 'standard' to confuse people. I suppose they are using sierra width track, so rear arches will need to be ~1" wider.

Not exactly top notch journalism, but article is ok. Spotted the Chris / MK Sportscars fruedian also.

Not as inaccurate as the MK Indy info in the back of Kit Car a few months back though.

Me too. But actually, depending how you read it, it *can* be correct!

And I have it on good authority, that the 'New' Book will be available FOR FREE for anyone who subscribes to PPC Magazine at the Historic Motorsport Show/Retro Race Show (whatever it's called!) at Stoneleigh!
