cortina uprights, where to buy?
seven-italy - 18/2/07 at 11:13 AM

Hi, I am a new user, and I start to build a book chassis.
For me it's hard to find the cortina uprights in Italy.
May you give some suggestion ?
It's a good choice to buy them on ebay from "fenland ford spares" ?

ps
I ask you sorry for my poor english but it is not my native language.

Welcome.

I guess there are not too many Cortinas out there.

Well you either take the plunge and buy over here (they can still be found on ebay and the likes) and pay the postage or maybe look for an alternative that may be available locally and alter the front wishbones too suit.

As for your poor English, its much better than my Italian.

Are there any old Ladas in Italy ? They use double wishbone front suspension with nice light uprights. Isn't it an old fiat design ? There must be some of them kicking around.

Think the Ladas were Fiat 124 s made under licence?

thanks a lot, but if a use lada/fiat uprights do you think that could i have some problem with the sierra based irs?
The lada/fiat uprights have the same hub of the cortina?

No they don't, wheels would be your problem, different pcd front and rear. Could you not find a single doner vechile in Italy ?

Are sierra's available ? If so I could be wrong but doesnt the new book released next week have plans for sierra based locost both front and rear ?

If you use the Lada/fiat front uprights could you use the back axle from the same vehicle ? I know it wouldn't be irs but I find no problems on road or track using a solid axle rather than irs. Can be easier too set up, less variables.

I have already one sierra as donor and
I have already constructed the irs with the plans on the book "How to Build Your Own Tiger Avon Sportscar" ( i modified something, I think there are some errors on the plans...) .

Perhaps I am mistaking myself but I think that sierra uprigthts are a not good replacement of cortina ones.

You could say to me if it is true or give to me some other suggestion?

they arent great but can be used, just needs shorter upper wishbones and a 'mushroom insert' to replace the standard strut.

I would want to make a modest proposal, why not to make a collection of the answer of the common problem (a sort of faq ).
In this way in this way the newbies could be oriented better.

I think that Raceleda Uprights are good, but not locost!
So which it is the best quality/price choice ?
