Here is a good problem for you; i have got 5k (ish) to spend on a locost, should I
1. Buy one with a pinto engine
2. Build one with a car/bike engine
3. Sell my body and buy a second hand bike engined locost
many thanks Tim
Build one with a pinto engine
Easily done for well under £5k if you are careful
Build a car engined one and go for the biggest and most powerful one you can , Give yourself a challenge .
Blag a few rides in CEC's n BEC's before you decide.
Want a unbiased opinion ?
No good asking me then, build a BEC.
If you don't have the time then you could buy a very nice pinto engined car for that sort of cash or a pretty good BEC wih a fireblade engine
Just need a bit of patience waiting for the right car to come up.
Cheers
Mark
Buy this and lose the ridiculous bonnet. Looks good value

Buy one or build one with a car engine get it through sva if you build one, run it for a couple of years,
Then when you are bored with it and saved a bit more cash put a proper engine in it!
That's what I did
Dave..........

Firstly decide BEC or CEC.
Start the build based on your budget and use cash to get most of the main build bits you need. Build may take about a year, you will probs go over
budget but once youve started its amazing how you will find some more cash to finish it by then.
If CEC you could probs build a 1.8 Zetec for that sort of money if you are careful and shop around for bits.
Doubt you will do a BEC for that money.
All depends what you want the car for and how stingy you can be.
I say go 3 and buy mine! Probably go to £7.5k to leave you a pair of legs to drive with. You only lose a kidney or two that way! :Oh, it does still need an engine though, but I'm working on that.
thank you to everyone for their opinons. Still undecided on what to do yet. I am goign to think long and hard but swaying towards BEC
Many Thanks
Tim
keep swaying........
The Bec is gonna get ya.......
we have another convert
I bought a finished locost and spent about a grand putting a bike engine in. Cheapest way to get the speed factor.
Look for a part built and abandoned car. They usually sell for less than the cost of their parts. It will probably take more work this way but less money.
may even have a turbo bec for sale soon..........
