How big is the average Single Garage?
Guinness - 4/4/07 at 06:33 PM

How big is yours?

The area of my back yard that I get to keep the car in is about 2.4 x 3.0m, so 7.2 sq m.

Can we keep it in metrification measures for ease of comparision?

Cheers

Mike

22' x 10'

Sh*t can't find the calculator, so that's 22 / 3.3, is about 6.5m ish and 10 / 3.3 is about 3.3.

6.5 x 3.3 = 22sq.m

bartonp - 4/4/07 at 07:33 PM

2.7 x 5.6
The new one just being started alongside is going to be 4.4 x 6.7 (ok, so not strictly a single garage!)

jacko - 4/4/07 at 09:15 PM

7.5m x 5.5 m just a nice size

I think mine's about 19/20' x 9' ish, so about 5.5m x 2.8-3m roughly.

Ned.

Wait for NS Dev to post - then you'll be green with envy.

Mines about 5m x2.2ish.

My car port thing is about 2.5 but 5.5 metres but is so full of crap its half that size.

Im trying to buy a house that has a garage thats 3.5ish x 6.5 with a fenced in drive beside so can easily be extended.

NS Dev - 5/4/07 at 08:03 AM

10m x 5m

Built it myself, cost around £3700 to build.

Average single garage is between 8' and 8'6" and between 16' and 17' long.

I have an average single garage now and its too small.

New house has approx 9' x 29' garage so ill report back later how effective it is.

Last house was 13' x 29', to be honest possibly a touch large. I horded too much in it and came under pressure to store stuff from the house. Forever had to tidy up push bikes and toys etc that were dumped in the doorway.

If i was to build a one from scratch - based on one car and workshop id probs go for 11' wide by 22' long or so but with good storage in the eves or even possibly an upstairs workshop area if i could get away with it.
A good garage for a 7 based on it having to be compact for available space would be 9 or 10' wide by 20 or so feet long. Just dont have stuff on the floor up the side.

40' x 30' (12m x 9m ish)....built it with my Dad for around 4500 pounds. Plus, my existing machine shop next door of similar size.

Yeah, lucky I guess, but it is part of my business...so why not take advantage?..

Extra big thumbs up for you guys who do it in confined spaces...I've been there so I do know.....

FYI

The current issue of Practical Classics has an article on garage building.
All types: wooden sheds, posh wooden sheds, concrete, brick, etc.
