Supplier recomendation - Airey Tuning

After getting my car on the road, driving it for a while and a rolling road shoot out session it was aparent that the carb needed rejetting and the timing set-up correctly.

So Tuesday this week I took the car to a local and much recomended tuner and Weber specialist company - Airey Tuning

Well it wasn't cheap, but bl00dy hell was it worth it

Initial testing showed the carb was running very lean upto 2k rpm and then too rich above 2k rpm. The static timing (set by trial/error) was 22 deg at idle (vac disconnected).

After changing the air, main and idle jets and retarding the static timing to 12 deg further dyno testing showed a massive imrpovement in smoothness, power and general running.

A short road test had me grinning like a damned fool

Power went from ~100bhp to ~110bhp with near instant pick up and really smooth transition through the rev range. The car is soooooooo much better to drive and just feels like it's come to life. Overtaking slower traffic can be completed in the blink of an eye.

So to summarise - a big thumbs up and recomendation to Tom Airey for excellent service, advice and general Weber knowledge.

For those interested the engine is a fully rebuilt standard 2.0 Pinto with a Weber 32/36 DGV carb and MK supplied manifold.

I'm off to give it some more abuse....

Tom Airey is one of the old old school.

He is acknowledged as the best man for SU carbs setting. To watch him changing the shape of an SU needle, using emery cloth is like watching a fine artist at work. And then see the results on the dyno.............I cannot find the words to praise this man enough.

He's about the best you can get for older cars and engines, but doesn't like efi too much.

Tom's old, quiet, and very, very good. Anyone in the south wanting weber or su carbs set up, go to Tom, and be prepared to wait if he is booked up.

Cheers,
Syd.

I took mine to Tom to set up the DHLA 40s. He didn't have as bigger selection of jets etc. for the Dellortos as for webers but he still did a fantastic job and I would also thoroughly recommend him. Definitely old school, but in the best way!
