Guess the weight of my Locost
907 - 27/5/07 at 11:35 AM

Hi all,

Gaz is home for the weekend , so we thought we would pass the time and weigh the LOCOST.

Any of you care to hazard a guess before we post the result?

The car is:

+4 stainless chassis
ally body
2lt lotus 907 lump with getrag box
Sierra IRS based back end
Spare wheel mounted on the back
all fluids inc half a tank of fuel.
No windscreen fitted yet but there is a pencil on the bonnet (blunt)

so what do you think?

What is the interior like? Carpeted with upholstered seats or spartan racer.

If carpeted I would say 680, if not around 660.

jambojeef - 27/5/07 at 11:53 AM

Oh yeah, yours is all nicely interiored up with all posh panels and stuff isnt it......

Hmm my 620 might be a shade low - can I pay another 20p and have another go?

I reckon they're all too heavy so far. I'd guess at something around 590-600 kgs.

Phew - lucky it's a full width floor and you didn't try to skimp by only having it go part way across

Right, time to reveal all.

The corners as follows:

[159]------ rear ------[165]

[148]------front------[153]

That's a total of 625 Kgs

So that's 256 bhp/tonne.

Other than the positioning of the engine/gearbox well back, I've not really paid much attention to weight.

Well chuffed.

Well done Geoff for the very first post. Just 5 Kgs out.

I'd love to, I really would, but I can't afford it.

When I started the build the fuel tank held £20 worth. Now it's £35
