Checking it all over

Well, I'm getting closer and closer to placing my grubby paws on my very own cec! The garage is sorted, and got a Chris Gill manual and welders mask for my birthday, so its all coming together.....all be it slowly!

Next on the agenda is to find and go looking at part built projects w/ engines and brake system fitted.
I know this is probably a massively ambiguous question, but with regards to the chassis more than anything - what do you really need to look for to make sure your not buying a dud?
Just holes in welds or particular welds.....??

I was taught an old saying when i started work as an engineer and it has stuck with me all through, it may be of use to you here

"If it looks wrong it probably is wrong"

seriously, look for good quality welds, triangulation in the design, logical layout of systems, servicabuility, and ease of use.

Ditto and it's My sig as well.
Your eye's tour merchant for 80% of it.
If its ploppy lumpy welding---bin it
if it's ground back to make it look good-----bin it
Take something sharp with you to scratch at the welds to make sure they've not been touched up with a sealer gun.

are there any cheeky short cuts that have been reported, which need looking out for?

I've really not a clue what to look at if i went to see a part built car
