4KAM Packages

Hello All,

Im fancying a bullet cam set up. 4KAM looks good. For those who have one and used for a while what is your honest appraisal?

What do you think of the resolution? Does it look good on a large screen TV? Easy to download to PC and then save to disc? Anything lacking that you could do with / would look for if you replaced it?

The specs say the cams are 420TVL. This si rather high for the money. Lots of others seem lower resolution and more money.

Ref the recorder - can it be used to store other pics for playback? Music? etc??

Looking at 4kam.com the spec says 520TVL which is the highest res the composite video connection will support? Also what I would have recommended as the minimum to go for. As the saying goes "crap in crap out" or something like that!
Can't comment on the DVR recorder thoough.

I really like mine darren. I'll burn the original footage onto a cd and post it to you so you can see what I got out and how much quality is lost when trying to get the important bits onto youtube or other sites.

I'm very disapointed with the sound volume and am looking into getting it increased but will probably go back to 4kam for their mic as i know it'll work. The problem is that my car is too quiet it doenst have a nasty screaming bike engine in it and the mic works very well on a bike or BEC judging by all of the footage ive seen.

I havent been brave enough to use the suction mounts in anger and i didnt buy a roll bar mount as I knew how to make my own rather than buy one. A simple exhansut clamp and a short section of angle ali with 2 holes on each face and a couple of zip ties was all i needed for my footage of donington.

I will also probably be looking into hard wiring the kit toff the main battery rather than having to have seperate battery [acks but the batteries havent failed on me yet. I did get a spare battery for the recorder which was very welcome during the donington td weekend.

That will be great Jos. Im interested to learn what the play back is like on a large TV.

Ive seen another system that uses 520 and 580 lines cameras but for the recorders one of the packages uses an Archos. this got me thinking. You van have a great camera but if the recorder is chopping some of the resolution then the output will be truncated. The problem with systems with seemingly better recorders is the cost! but those recorders are multimedia players and you can save movies and TV programmes, play back photo's etc (useful when i go camping).

What about recording time? Do you find extended memory is required? What size cards (2GB max??)

is the 4KAM DVR just a basic recording and playback unit or does it have other functions?

I dont have big funds so 4KAM seems to score on several fronts. Im tempted to phone them to see if they will match the bulk buy price for another???? Worth a shot!!
