rent are buying me a helmet for Christmas, what markings / standards should i be looking for and how much should i be looking to spend? not going to be racing but will be having the odd track day, no screen so need to stop flys too.

whats red / blue tag?

ive seen a few:
omp major for £70
OMP Integrale vision £170
Sparco Formula Car , OMP "TURISMO 4" or OMP "SUPER KART" £250
OMP "FORMULA 4" £280

any info much appreciated

If you think you might ever do a hill climb or sprint then you will need on which complies with BS6658-85A/FR. You won't find one of these in a motorbike shop.

If you only ever want to do track days or wear it on the road then it doesn't matter.

I have the Sparco and I am very pleased with it.

Cheers

Mark

ive seen a few that have
"ACU Gold Stamp BS6658 Type A Approved"
are these okay or does the missing /fr matter?

ACU gold is a motorbike racing approval

The FR bit means fire resistant lining.

It is not necessary for MSA events - it might be desirable though!

ta, so its worth getting the red label (a/fr) then?

dont really like the sound of non fire retardent helmets!

I'm giving serious thought to this!

I make it less than £190 after import VAT & delivery

Especially if you are driving a Caparo T1

ive often thought about getting a helmet more suited to cars. Am i right in thinking that there is a difference between bike full face and car full face helmets in terms of shape? Im wondering if the car ones are less prone to drafts rising up from the chin (i often find my eyes drying out on a long run).

Wife has offered to get me one for Christmas but the main thing putting me off is that there doesnt seem to be anywhere local that will have them on display to try on. My Nitro helmet is the right size but i dont think it suits the shape of my head, after about an hour of wearing it i get excruciating pain across my forehead, ive alleviated this by squishing the foam at that area but i know this isnt really the way to get a helmet more comfortable.
