Went to a local stockist of metal today won't mention any names, anyway got a real bargin 3mm aluminium sheet 1400x800mm and a small piece of checker plate for £20 things is the aluminium has laser cut film on it, what type of aluminium does this make it? and how much of a bargin did i get?

So long as it's not some strange aircraft grade that needs to be stored cold else it hardens, yes sounds good... (You will find out if you try and bend it)..

Yes without a receipt u can't use it cos of sva. I'll give u a tenner for it.

Thats not a big sheet, 1200x800, just an offcut from a 4800x2400 sheet which would be around £60 from memory.

I think the film is to minimise the reflection if the sheet is to be laser cut. This film does not mean that the ally itself is a special grade for laser cutting.

As for it being a special aircraft grade, this is unlikely as laser cut aluminium cannot be used on aircraft due to the affect on material properties around the cut (laser being a hot process).

I thought the film was to stop it scratching???

£60 would get you a sheet of normal 1.5 mm i would recon.

Pull some off the plastic off, the grade should be marked on the plate.

The plastic being on does not mean anything, any material can be ordered ex mill with it. As Donut says, it's applied to protect the surface.
