MIG Welder - Gas regulator
DaveFJ - 3/12/03 at 02:06 PM

Ok - finally got some advice and tuition on using my welder.....

Turns out I had very little gas flow which was half the problem. regulator is crap!

Question is how much is a decent regulator (preferably with a flow meter) and where is best to get one from?
Also (I know this has been asked before) Where is best to get a large bottle of co2/argon mix and how much are they ?

Cheers

Dave

I got my kit in BOC, in Ipswich.

They're always having special deals for this and that, so it's probably worth a look.

They're very helpful as well...

Otherwise there aren't many places left in our little industrial wasteland...

BTW: you'll want Argoshield Light, if you buy their gas, as most of your work will be less than 3mm thickness.

My twin dial reg' was about £40/50.

Gas (Argoshield) from BOC registered place.

I was afraid you'd ask me that - I've forgotten the name of the trading estate - it's on the road down to Wickes DIY.

Hang on - grunt - groan - Yell.com tells me it's

Brunel Rd,Hadleigh Rd Ind Est
Ipswich Suffolk
IP2 0EX

Tel: 01473 261638

Drive into the trading estate, left at the mini-roundabout, right at the next 90-degree bend, then it's a couple of hundred metres along on the right.

Usual office hours mon - fri, half-day a.m. on sat.

BTW: You don't have to buy a regulator with a built-in flow meter - you can use one of their cheap plastic affairs that work just as well, for a couple of quid or so.

Are they still there? I thought they'd gone years ago!

Well, you live and learn... that's where I bought my MIG (now aren't you glad I told you that? )

Do Energas have a depot down there? They are cheaper than BOC and Air Products if you fetch your own cylinders, no handling charge only gas.

yours, Pete.

Agree with peteff - energas were cheaper for me than BOC. Not sure about regs, mine came with welder 2nd hand, but I would have thought about £30 - eg WELD UK
