Has anyone managed to export/import a locost to Australia. If so any major issues or was it an OK process.

I'm planning a trip (as we speak) to Perth & Sydney Sept-Oct (f1GP & Bathurst), if it'll fit in my pocket I'll bring it over?
or you can pay for my flights? 
Think MNR may have done it?

mnr did it for someone and i think have an agent out there.

Yep, MNR have imported quite a few I believe for a track school or race series or summit.
Check the website and give Chris a ring.
It all depends on the car and if it meets the tough Australian design rules, the same ones that NEW cars have to meet .
No Bike engines
car engines have to be sourced from here with all of their EFI and emission equipment. have to meet our Beaming and Torsion test see my blog for
details.
It can be done but you should consult an Aussie engineer to check (one is listed on my site)

The best place to ask would be on OzClubbies and make it absolutely clear what you're proposing to
do (i.e. export from UK / import into Australia - yes?).
As Iain says, newly built clubmans in Australia need to meet much the same emissions regs as new cars. However, an import of your own car (that
you've owned for more than 12 months in the UK) would fall under a different category.
Anyway, ask (and search, because it's been asked before) on OzClubbies.

have a word with our australian agents redback motorsport, our chassis have passed all the structual tests / calcs
but as someone has mentioned above getting a bike engine car on the road may be tricky but the mx5 engined car should be pretty straight forward (
redback have an mx5 version onroute to them as we speak )

isn't there an oz version of the locost? McSorley or something? I'm sure its on wikipedia....
also, if it's expensive to send from uk to oz, maybe go on a MASSIVE roadtrip to somewhere a bit nearer and then ship from there?

I am pretty sure westfield have a aussie agent too, plus I know fraser and leitch send cars to aussie (from nz) And the Mcgregor I am building passes the aussie torsional tests with flying colours.. but dunno if they have sent any kits over to aussie yet.
If you've owned it here and have docs to show that, then it cuts a major percentage of the hurdles.
Otherwise, as others above have said, it will need to be tested to Aus standards, and as a bonus, you will have to pay import duty on a figure that
Aus customs pluck out of the ether. Oh, then 10% gst(vat)on top of that!
You have to have an export certificate obtained in the country of origin also, for the state you intend to export it to, and for Aus federal as well.
