Anyone suggest a good engineers' supplier (mail order)?

I need the kind of place where I can ring up and order (for instance) a 7/16 unf tap in HSS, with appropriate tapping drill, and for them to have the stuff in stock and be able to send it.

I know I can order from RS but last time I looked they seemed a bit pricey

Do a google for 'Tracy Tools'

Highly respected in the model engineering world - usually have stuff in stock, and not too expensive. Also, if you're only doing one or two jobs then you can get taps & dies in carbon steel at half the HSS price.

Another vote for tracy tools. Not tried the others so they might also be greatr but i was very very impressed with Tracy when i wanted some small 0.1mm increment drills to refill box. Ended up with new set cheaper than buying a few singles. Excellent on the phone and very fast delivery for a relatively small order.
