Hello, after being a watcher for some time I am about to begin the build process.
Sadly it will not be my car, as I cannot afford to build one to comply with the Australian Design Rules which mean that a home built car must comply
with all requirements for a new car
.A friend of mine has been recently able to secure a tack welded chassis, front uprights and rear axle from a Cortina (vented discs too), various
Escort bits like the rack etc, and a copy of the second edition Ron Champion book.
He is getting a Mazda MX 5 motor and gearbox, and building will start in the next week or so. Due to the head start we are hoping to have it under its
own power in 6 months, but I am not sure if this is feasible or not.
I am excited just thinking about it!!!
good luck!
Should be pretty happy with that engine and gearbox!
good luck with the build carnut
jacko the busman
Thanks fellas!
The chassis arrived today and I will start to fully weld some of the bits in the next few days. I plan to use the arc welder for most of it as I have
a lot of experience with a narc welding thin metal and olmost none with the MIG. I can certainly weld metal of the thickness of the chassis.
The wishbones are sorted, and will be made by a professional welder and TIG welded for a few bottles of beer. Better than the $800 we were quoted by a
big shop! We were set to make our own, but you can't beat an offer like that!
