Checked to see if it had been posted but couldn't see anything.
I knew this has been a rumour for a while but seems like it is now confirmed.
Stig
The accident report for Hamsters crash is available somewhere on the internet. It has Ben Collins' name all over it , he was down as 'High
Speed Driving Expert' as well as a witness. Obvisously doesnt mean he was the Stig but does show his connection to Top Gear.
Also Ben has been on Top Gear as himself a couple of times, once playing car football and the other trying to 'catch' a parachutist in the
back of a Merc convertible.
Could have told you that a long time ago....But not all the stigs are him as the insurance from some of the manufacturers stipulate that they use
their own drivers for track driving etc.
The guy who did the ski jump on a snow bike was a swedish stunt man too.
I've known it was Ben Collins for ages. I thought it was common knowledge.
I do know from a reliable source in the trade that Collins is the main Stig though.

looks like the thread has been deleted just after you posted that post above
I thought Ben Collins was the first black Stig, and that the new white Stig is someone else.
I do have it on very good authority though, that there are a few "on hand" Stigs for "normal" cars. But if it is one of the big
names, Ferrari et al then they usually supply their own driver to get the best possible time.

.
I think Perry was replaced because people found out who he was.
White Stig will probably be killed off now to be replaced by a different colour one

I've always thought it was pretty common knowledge ben collins was involved, especially as he was listed after hammonds off in the dragster..
But I always thought there was more than 1 as the driving styles can be quite different!!
But if anyone hasn't read perry mccarthys book, Its definatly well worth getting out of the libary I got the first edition (pre stig) on
recommendation from amazon its the only autobiog ive read more than once. Even the mrs thought it was one of the funniest reads she'd had.
Running on different days with completely different weather conditions makes the results meaningless anyway before adding different drivers to the
mix. It's not in any way a scientific method of comparing how fast one car is relative to another.
As for pink stig, I think Sabine would make a good candidate for that one.

Pink Stig sounds good to me - I'm all for a bit of equality
When Ultima used the Top Gear Track to break the lap record due to Top Gear not inviting them, the motorsport company (Plans Motorsport) that runs the
track explained that there are a number of "stigs" involved, hence the whole "stig" thing, to give an apparent consistency.
There is no way the BBC is going to pay the wages of a racing driver for the whole time that testing and filming is carried out, much easier to
contract various people as and when required, to fit with their racing schedules etc.
