Workmanship is alive and well (and on this forum!)
nib1980 - 15/6/09 at 08:00 PM

Hi All,

I had the pleasure of being invited round to a member on this forums workplace the other day to have a look round and take a few photos.

All I can say is WOW!

Workmanship is alive and well.

I think it's best if I don't say where this as will become apparent from the pictures, but I'll let the man introduce himself, some may already know.

see my following photos.

Hi loco,

many thanks I do quite like taking the pics, but the subject was awesome.

I'm still waiting for him to introduce himself, but some of you seem to know already!

sub zero cool sweet love the skill must be nice

MikeR - 15/6/09 at 08:58 PM

My first thought is wowsers

Then TrevD (I actually for a second thought "ali seven - must be TrevD" .... then i realised its a 'proper' seven - hopefully thats a complement to Trev and not an insult).

Third thought is "fantastic pictures" ..... obvious tricks with depth of field which work really really well. How did you light the place? What have you used to post process? (yes i'm also jealous of the photography).

jollygreengiant - 15/6/09 at 09:00 PM

Ive only seen the top photo so far with the coils of trimmed ali, at a gues I'd say its TrevD's work place. Will post and edit if correct.

Yep Correct. His work place is just........................................................

Hi, Thanks, the lighting is either natural, or using my Nissin DI622 on the camera and remote fired, but mainly natural lighting. not a great deal of post processing, just mono conversion and a bit of sharpening, mainly done in ether Corel X2 or Adobe Elements.

Many thanks again!

Shapecraft?

Have to say it - the workplace needs a "we are not worthy" emoticon...

The photos are pretty special too. Loving the echos between the panel rivets on the Lotus(?) and the crane gantry. Good use of effect and contrast.

The place would be an excellent LCB photo project...?

Francis.

Confused but excited. - 15/6/09 at 09:32 PM

TrevD should be writing 'How to' books and making training videos.
That level of skill is rapidly disappearing and he should be declared a Living National Treasure.

Trev D - 15/6/09 at 09:38 PM

Fantastic pictures Neil many thanks for coming down and taking them especially the ones of the Alfa. Yes it is my place of work and it is Shapecraft. Craig I spose I am a bit of a show off but when you have access to these types of cars why not
Thanks for the comments but credit to Neil for making them look so good in the pictures.
ATB Trev

eccsmk - 15/6/09 at 09:41 PM

Thanks trev, but your selling it short the pictures really don't so it justice.

The best way i can describe it, is when you see something so good you want to touch to make sure it's real. you know what I mean.

Thats the feeling that place gave me.

Many thanks again Trev

cadebytiger - 15/6/09 at 09:56 PM

That is just amazing. How did you learn? Is this what you do full time?

MikeR - 15/6/09 at 10:25 PM

Can you organise saturday tours ? I'll donate to your favourite charity!

Ninehigh - 15/6/09 at 11:22 PM

That's one heck of a shed! I guess it's part knack, part love of what you're doing

Nice work both of you

presumably you mean Trev!

don't really like speaking for him, but yes this is his day job and i think for over 20 years now.

yes the skill really is that good.

iank - 16/6/09 at 10:02 AM

Love the decorative nose grill and the jig used for forming it.
Hand formed aluminium is just so "right" when compared with grp.

jabbahutt - 16/6/09 at 10:29 AM

true skill, absolutley stunning. What would I give to be that skillful at anything never mind something with such a stunning end product.

skills like this must never be lost it would be tragic.

cadebytiger - 16/6/09 at 12:16 PM

What a great job! Must be very rewarding.

I did mean trev btw. LOL.

you must jump out of bed in the morning with a bloody big grin on your face ....... lucky bugger .................... nice pics black n white are

stevegough - 17/6/09 at 09:42 AM

Bodies with beautiful curves like that should be used as centrefolds and 'page 3'.

Stunning craftsmanship.

Can't knock the photographer, either - difficult lighting situation, - made the most of it - well done!

Steve.

wilkingj - 17/6/09 at 11:11 AM

Ahh its knowing the techniques, and having the right tools, and a lot of experience.

Same goes for any craft / trade.

Just try carefully shaping a bit of 0.5mm thick ally plate with a 7lb sledge hammer, and then try again with a smaller bodywork hammer... You will see and notice the difference even if you are not skilled.

I take my hat off to the likes of TrevD and 907, they are the real craftsmen amongst us.

We can all benefit from their guidance and help.
The trouble is some people just dont take notice of them.

I couldnt work at TrevD's place, even if I had the skills. I would just sit there gawping at all the lovely cars, and end up getting sacked for doing nowt but gawping all day
