Thinking of getting a little runabout for the wife . Something totally impractical but capable of transporting three people (wife and two young daughters). Preferably a cabriolet of some sort and a bit sporty. Budget about £3,500. I like the old MK1 Golf GTI cabriolet but is there owt else that fits the bill? Not too concerned about age of vehicle.

Does an MX-5 have any back seats at all?
If so maybe one of those.
Obviously you can stick an R1/Blade/ZX12 in it later.

morris minor soft top - a bit rare now but not that quick - plenty of engine bay room for a V8

You could get a mk3 golf convertible for that money, but don't expect it to be any more reliable than the mk1. Don't know if you could pick up a early 90's audi conv for that kind of cash?

Now I know you may not like this one but if you are having a sensible fit what about a SAAB 900 or early 9-3 convertible?

Now I like Pugs as a rule, but the 206cc is heavy, sluggish and ugly (IMHO).

MK1 Golf Clipper would be my choice

306 Cab is what I would go for you should get a good one for that sort of money.

PS. Nice to see your looking at proper engined vehicles even if it is for the other half.

Now there's a thought. I wonder if Martin could do a three seater inline Sprint R?

I have an MGTF 135 for sale for approx £4,300 if your interested. Cambelt done, new clutch, new back tyres etc etc etc.

Stick with the GOLF , best older car around , even thought of one for myself and family , but that would mean selling the V5.
