Is an LSD worth it?

Im trying to get some bits together for my indy build. I dont really have room to buy a donor car, so i will have to get the bits seperately off ebay or similar.

The prices of sierra lsds that i have looked at seem to be a fair bit more than a normal diff. I have an lsd in my MX5 and quite like it.

Is the extra cost of a Sierra lsd worth it for the Indy?

I haven't got one and it doesn't bother me! Depends if your going to seriously use it as a track car or mainly just on the road...

Without one you just have to be more careful with the throttle in corners.

Mine does nicely without and i make the most of it if the back steps out..

No LSD in mine or 3 of the mates no problems. I see an LSD as a nice to have but not essentiall. Think of all the other stuff you can get with the money saved. Main thing is to get the car on the road. An LSD can be fitted later

Right gearing is more important.
Probably the most common LDS is the 3.62 which suits many BECs so win win

I think il focus on finding the right gearbox and when ive got the kit, find a diff to suit the XE.

Er actually no - with one you have to be more careful.

Without one, on the exit of a corner if you give too much throttle you will get the inside wheel spinning up which limits the traction you will get but unless you are being really OTT will actually reduce the tendency to lose the back end.

If you have a LSD then when accelerating out of the corner, both wheels will tend to spin if you give it too much and make it easier to spin the car. A good driver will be faster with a LSD because he will get better traction before the back end steps out. but he has to be more careful with the throttle.

When an LSD equipped car does eventually let go, then it's pretty spectacular!

I actually enjoy a standard diff... not 'race-track-fast', but great fun for road-speed slideability!

deffo go for the lsd you will get bored of not having the grip when you want it!!!! Trust Me...

staring form the basics is a good way to go,

Just remeber to keep everthing as light as possible, you wont go far wrong.

LSD is great on tracks, especially if you have plenty of power....It's also nice for doing doughnuts....They tend to work well in lighter cars as the the lack of weight makes it easy to spin the wheels....Are they necessary..probably not, and I think the advice on the gear box ratios is good...For a standard type 9, I think the 3.9 diff works a little better, but these are difficult to get hold of in LSD form.....
