1.4 kw starter motor for pinto

hi guys, i have a pinto with high compression and race cams, im trying to up rate my starter motor to 1.4 from 0.8kw as my existing starter motor isnt man enough, which motor do i need, would it be one from a 1986 serria or 4 x 4 serria. .

Really problem is more likely your ignition advance curve, too much static/cranking advance. Very common problem on modified older generation ford engines.

If you have an old fashioned distributor you can modify the distributor to give more mechanical centrifugal advance and which will allow you to retard the static advance but keep the same ignition timing at higher rpm.

If you have electronics controlling the ignition you need to alter the ignition mapping to retard the timing below about 500 rpm.

if you realy need a high torque starter, you can get them off the shelf but they arn't cheap: e.g. burton

try H&H: linky if your going to one of the shows (like stoneleigh) give them a call and you should be able to collect it from the show
{I got one from them, but haven't had a chance to use it yet.....}

but most people seem to get away without one, even on high CR engines
