I used a wirebrush on the end of a drill to clean up my T5 box, came up a treat

Fairy power spray & Comma hyperclean and a selection of wire mounted wheels in the drill, Came up a treat and then finished it off with a few coats of Hammerite Silver spray paint

Second on spraying it once clean, comes up a treat and mine still looks like new 10K miles later. paint also easier to clean when it does get dirty.

Soda blasting?

I used an acid alloy wheel cleaner that we had at work. Worked well but not good for you.

Another vote for alloy wheel cleaner - work in in with a stiff brush and jetwash off
