Evening!

I have to pick up a 1.8 Zetec with Dry Sump later in the week. Unfortunately, I've never seen one in the flesh, so I've no idea if it will fit in my Passat (saloon) boot.

Does anyone have any idea?

Also, how heavy are these blighters? Could it be lifted in/out by 2 people?

PS - Do I win 'stupid question of the day'?

I collected my normal silvertop in my Vectra, and it managed to fit in the boot with no problems. You might stuggle to lift it in and out if you don't have a crane though. I guess it weighs about 100kg...

As it hasn't got a hatch you may struggle. I've got a Passat estate and comfortably got a Rover K series in the back, but the difference is that the tailgate lifts right out of the way

Got a 4.2 rover V8 plus Ancylaries in the back of my Passat Estate oil burner.

I would say the Zetec would go in the saloon no problems. Espicially if you can lay the back seats flat.

I would persoanlly take some old sheets and blocks of wood and lay the engine flat ( depending if it is full of oil but as its a dry sump should be dry?). Make sure that you dont damage the dry sump fittings while loading / in transit.

I once got a fiat 2 litre twin cam in the boot of a meastro!

Thinking about it an MNR customer Brought Zetec and type 9 box to the workshop in a Corsa 1.5d he did mention it made the sterring nice and light !!!

I've transported my 4AGE 20V engine in the boot of my Audi A4 saloon. No ski hatch or folding seats and the opening is small! Had to remove the inlet manifold, ancilliaries.

As above I used chunks of wood to steady it and plenty of carboard and bin liners to catch any liquids.

ive put one in the front of locost

should go in the passat fine. 115 Kgs for the 1.8 i think.

I transported a 10 hp. Honda 4-stroke outboard motor on my Honda Goldwing (strapped across the rear seat)...does that count??

Brought a gearbox home on the back of the Locost. Manchester to Doncaster.

I picked up a two litre zetec last year,house husband "donut" put on his rubber gloves to help me lift it in the trailer.

I lifted it out myself at mine,it could well go in a boot,make sure it has no oil and lay it down with the crankcase block oil trap facing up.(basically inlet down exhaust up)

I delivered my 1.8 zetec motor, type 9 gearbox, uprights and steering column to MNR in the back of my Corsa... Loads of room with the seats down.

I got a range rover axle with Diff into a Seat Ibiza GTI and still had room for me and two MK indy side panels.

Should fit but may need lying down.

Would try and put it in/on something that will catch the fluids.

Hint: Domino's Pizza dough trays used to be ideal for this....usually find a stack of them outside the back of the shop....

They're good for putting under the car when doing an oil change, too....

Looks like a type 9 box to me.
