I need a big radiator any ideas?
Mr Whippy - 7/2/08 at 10:44 PM

Hi,

Not sure I'll get an answer with this one but here goes.

I want to replace one of the cars rads from the old inserted core types to the much stronger ally type like in the picture, though not that particular one and plastic ends would be fine.

The maximum size I can fit is 450mm high x 750mm long, single or double core, with integral fan switch. I know what you’re thinking; he's asking a lot...but if you could help, thanks.

oop edited cos I stupidly thought the hoses where on the same side, off course the not duh!

Surely a polo rad would do the job there a bit smaller than that but reputed to be good for 200bhp.There is a larger golf one also that would fit.
Plumbing is on near side and fitted with thermo switch.
Paul.

Not sure if this will help though, when I was searching for the biggest rad I could find I found this WEBSITE LINK useful as it has the sizes of all the radiatrors if you click on the magnifying glass to show the picture.

May take trial and error though which I why I said might help

Cheers

Thought you were banished? tee hee! Anyway, I'm in a similar situation, my car runs too hot and I've removed the thermostat and its not the head gasket so I need a better rad than the standard crap battered mk2 escort one I have at the moment, so I'm eager for replies, although maybe slightly smaller in dimensions to Mr Whippy's requirements. Sorry If this is highjacking your topic slightly!

Nice square rad , big and easy to connect to.

If you really want to go that big what about a Passat rad.

http://www.adrad.co.uk/icegroup/adrad/new/prices.php?id=AD393&model=PASSAT&make=VOLKSWAGEN

Worth checking its aluminium before ordering.

Typical good response as usual, cheers. That site is well handy giving the sizes and fitting, I’ll troll through it to see which one will fit best. Good prices too.

Cool

there is a website that can find a make/modle of radiator with the given dimensions you put in.

It may have been on here so a search may reveal it.

If you are stuck, then I could try to find it.

BTW I have a wider than normal polo radiator that is not gonna fit in my chassis (yes, there is more than one size as I found out!).

Try this seller on ebay
Much cheaper than anywhere else I've seen.
£52 inc p&p for the passat rad (as I suggested above)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLKSWAGON-PASSAT-MK4-1-6-1-8-1-9-2-0-12-01-RADIATOR_W0QQitemZ150125545339QQihZ005QQcategoryZ9889QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

Has polo rads for £36 inc p&p

BMW 740i rad is huge but just within the dimensions you are looking for and is £90 or so from GSF

NS Dev - 8/2/08 at 03:27 PM

PS BMW 740 rad is slightly bigger than the passat one but also one core thicker.

designed to cool the 4.0 v8 and 5 litre v12 so fine with over 300hp as std

Fair enough, I was looking at AD393 on AdRad which is over £70. Didn't check the exact model of the ebay back against it.
