This will get your back up!

Was quoted £350 and £337 for insurance which included unlimited track days as long as I gave them one days notice of the occasion. This was on the rather fast Caterham CSR 260 and the old model R500.
However IMHO I preferred the scene/people/prices/size of footwell/bike power, of just about every kitcar over the Caterham.
So I bought a lovely Striker with a 1.8 Zetec with the plan to go BEC this winter.
Thought I would drive it as is for the summer so went back to the companies that quoted me.
The like for like quotes shot up to around £600 because it is not a Caterham.
Last week observing a Caterham trackday, someone needed a jack, so I lent them mine. Three different owners smirked at my cheepo (but utterly needed and effective) jack, which made me want to defend the jack and smack them, but I didn't lower myself to their level and carried on.
So why do they get cheaper insurance?
Answers on a postcard to:
'Yes I would have smacked them too'
'of course we drive better'
'jobs for the boys etc'

or just tell me via this thread!

Can of worms??

Were the quotes with specialised companies? £600 sounds high for a 1.8 zetec.

I pay £185 for a 2.0 pinto and im 24.

Is it because they're registered in some way to insurance companies or is it because they're considered to be less of a kit car and more of a car so companies think that their parts are more readily available if repair is needed.

When I asked they said it was because they were familiar with the claims structure of Caterhams!
I can get cheap quotes for road only but it is the track cover I wanted.

Guessing that you went to a broker / direct insurance co. who either didn't want the business or quoted based on "modifications"?

The "any modifications?" question makes me smile when I'm looking for a quote on my Indy.

And how ungrateful! Good on you for not rising to the bait, though. Bet it was tempting to suggest that they might not want to use it...

Kick the jack from under the car when it was raised dropping the disc on his/her hand...... smerk pick up said jack and run.

Tell them your car can have all its parts replaced by Caterham bits if necessary.

Hi

The difference in price will also be down to the backup that the manufacturer can offer. Caterham / Westfield will obviously be able to offer full backup and also be able to take on just about any repair work up to the point of the car becoming a right off. Many other manufacturers do not have the skill to actualy carry out repairs to chassis ect which leads to the cars being wrote of much easier.

Cheers Matt
