Camping Gear?

Anyone recommend me a good sleeping bag?

Must have left mine at the Leeds festival last time I was there

I have a tent, airbed, cover for the car and a slab of beer for Stoneleigh.

Do I need anything else? Kettle and pot noodles perhaps??

Steve

edit: or ex-german army ones, fiver and very warm, easily last a festival.

I bought some from one of the outdoor shops. Think they were £20 each. Best bit is 2 will zip together to make a double

^^^ what they say.

all depends on usage, how warm you want to be, how long you want the bag to last and mostly weight/bulk.

locost would be glueing together tesco carrier bags filed with poly foam chips but it will not meet all the above criteria.

Depsite advances in fillers, goose down still cannot be beaten for warmth/weight/bulk and as you would expect, is the most expensive.

Disadvantage is if wet, then is loses its insulation properties, which is weird since gooses and duckses live on water.

Regarding usage, these are mostly rated at 1,2,3,4,4+ seasons roughly corresponding to summer, spring+summer, s+s+autumn, all 4 and mountain use. Data also gives lowest comfort and lowest extreme temperature usage.

For Stoneligh , 3 season would be enough. You can always wear long johns and socks to keep ya tootsies warm.

Recognised good top brands being North Face, Marmot, Vango, Mountain Equipment, Vaude, Anjungilak,

ebay (over 1,800 hits for "new sleeping bag" so there is a fair bit of choice) and Costwolds Outdoor may be places to browse.

Another brand to look out for is Gelert, cheaper than the above but surprisingly not nasty.

Most bags accomodate peeps up to 6 ft tall, if you are a few inches over that, then you need a longer bag and you choice is more limited.

In the High Street, Millets. Oswalrd Bailey and Blacks, sell some of the above and lesser ones.

Going cheaper still then Argos have a reasonable range, mostly for UK summer Autumn camping, no north face Everest stuff and have a sale at the mo'.

^^^ what they all said

just don't believe the cheap bags that say -15, -20 and so on....
often they are quoted as 'survivable at -20' but you'll be freezing cold before +5

I've got a downed Rab one that cost me £120 in a sale (normally nearer £190) and it only says -5, but its actually warm at -5
infact I was too warm in it, on the top of BenNevis at new year

£10 bag should do if you are going to drink sufficient.

Tesco, 20 bar for a one that says -10. That'll do me with me beer pyjamas on.

Going to Stoneleigh Darren?
