machining help (lathe) and advice please

Hi all,

Can anyone help me out with some machining? I need 2 new rear hubs machining.

They need to be pretty precise as they need to take the wheel bearings which obviously need to be pressed in.

Secondly does 71.9mm ID sound about right to take a 72mm OD wheel bearing?

Thanks

Mikkel

No. 0.1mm is a lot when you're asking a big piece of material to stretch!
What are you making the hubs out of?

I would suggest an interference of 0.0007". That must be about 0.0178mm?

It's a long time since I was at school!

If you get stuck it is possible that we can do it, but now for at least a month as we are too busy on a machine build. Its that within your timescales or do you need it now?

Forgot to say, it would help if you send the bearings with it so that we can measure it and machine to suit.

We make a similar item for another kitcar manufacturer.

Are they made from steel billet or aluminium? Think I have some material in stock

Ok, thanks owelly, im just going by what my verniers told me from the old hub when i removed the old bearings.

Thanks for the offer spikehaus, if i dont find anything sooner i will take you up on your offer.

They are to be made up of steel so i can weld a flange to one end of it.

Thanks

Mikkel
