Plasma Cutter required
I want a Plasma Cutter - I've seen this on eBlag
TIG WELDER PLASMA CUTTER ARC WELDER NEW CT416 UK SELLER on eBay (end time 17-Nov-10 13:38:52 GMT)
Has anybody got experince with these sort of things ?
3 in 1 - jack of all trades or OK ?
Can anybody recommend one please ?
I don't want to spend a fortune as it will only be for occasional use.
Also, what's the air consumption ?

Ive got a cheap three in one and love it. I cut a nice 4" hole out the boot cover last week and tiged one of the new seat belt bosses in last
night.
I just need more practice with the Tig lol.
MMa or stick welding is also nice and smooth. Ive used it a couple of times when ive ran out of mig wire or gas.
Just dont expect to get it repaired if it goes wrong.
it doesnt use much air, a small compressor will be fine.

It also suggests that it's cutting air pressure needs to be 4 bar and 80 litres per second.
So I think a 50 litre tank with max 8 bar pressure would be max depth cut for about 3.2 seconds.
Only guess, but do know you need good air supply.

Seen wasa's post and i guess if he has one then must be a better answer. Can you vary the airflow for thin metal guess you must be able to from
the compressor/

Following a post from I "think" Mark @ Mnr . I run the power high and the presure low for thin stuf and more the thicker you go to give a
cleaner cut.
I have a 3hp motor ona 150L tank and cant think when ive had to recharge to finish a job.

ebay not sure it was few years ago but wouldnt be a million mile of the one you posted up. Same sort of spec in a differant case.

It says 80 litres per MINUTE !!
I ran a big Thermal Dynamics 3 phase plasma from a 25 CFM compressor at 60 psi and never ran the min air pressure problem.

You are right I read as litres per second. my error!

Can't speak for everybody here, but I think I most here would think of that as a BIG compressor! In amateur car building terms anyway.

Did you see the input current on 'CUT'? 27amps!!! That'll need more than a normal household plug!

A bloke i know said he spoke to the bloke who does the r-tech tig welders. As I recall he claimed that these units don't tig as well as
dedicated tig's due to some compromise in the electronics to allow plasma cutting. Something to do with the frequency wave (i never claimed to
understand it).
No idea if this is rubbish as he didn't due to the plasma / tigs or if its correct.
Personally if i had the space / power supply / it did AC i'd love one (esp if it you could add a foot pedal).

I just wanted to mention it cause its what i've been told - thing is, as i tried to point out i've no idea if its actually true or sales
bumph or just a missunderstanding.
The guy who was buying and asking questions was a fully coded welder up to welding on oil rigs - although he has given me information before which
wasn't 100% accurate (or at least, what i wanted to do wasn't quite 100% coded best practice but worked fine when i ignored him and
actually did it).
