I have built a table over the car so I can store things above it. not touched the car and hardly been in the garage due to some magic turning one
child into two.

Come on guys pull your fingers out I built an Indy in 4 months just Eve's and every other weekend,
So whats the quickest time aswell?
I recon could do in 2 weeks easily
Have a great christmas all and as the weathers crap and excuse to get in the garage I think

Been on with the Jago for 5 years so far and all I've got so far is a painted chassis, a brand new body and the v8 is in bits.....

What do you determine as finished ?
as i started im may 1997, on the road may 1999,and done around 18k since
yet i still spend 20+ hours a week in the man cave fiddling with car related stuff to make it better ? (poss worse)

No mate. Mine was the second edition, on parchment.
I did try to find when I actually started. Came across an old invoice ( I use the term loosely ) from
PFP Salvage for " pair of Cortina hubs with discs & callipers £25 " and dated 27-10-01

I would be interested to see what people put as the root cause of their long builds
Personally I had a habit of working very long hours late at night but that rapidly got too much so tended move onto other projects
I now do vastly better just working 1-2 hours on specific single tasks each night and then coming back inside, even at weekends. If I do that I tear
though the car and feel a lot better about what I've done as I've finish what I set out to do

well I'm now at 9 years
but in all that time I just can't seem to get near the thing 
to start with the issue was I hadn't finished converting the garage before I got the kit...
then I ran out of cash due to buying a house
then I ran out of time due to working stupid hours (30+ hours of unpaid overtime a week )
then the old garage roof caved in in the snow - so new garage from scratch needed 
then I ran out of time again due to the new GF
shortly followed by broken bones and sorting the house properly for said GF to move in
then I really ran out if time when we had our little girl who at 8 months old takes every bit of spare time I've got left...
oh and every time it looks like I might get a chance to work on the car - one of the tin-tops needs fixed

Mine took 4 years. Was on the road in 2006, felt slow but some of these tales make that seem fast!
For those of you who're annoyed its taking so long: do you watch TV? I find that such a massive time-Sapper. If, instead of watching Corrie you
spent the same 30 mins on the car could you make more progress?

Bought my Sylva Phoenix kit in 1998 and haven't started it yet!
The body is in storage, the chassis is sat on top of an XJS (another project) in the garage and the SORN mk2 escort is in bits in the garage loft.
Still intend to build it to a very basic spec. Ali panelled interior, minimum instruments, live axle and tuned 1660 crossflow...........yummy

Lack of knowledge / experience slowed me down.
Lack of space hampered progress.
Chasing girls really slowed me down
Two children put a stop to everything for 4 years.
Buying a new house with double garage - hoping to move by Xmas and have rolling car in 12 months
15 years + after starting.........
I've had some cracking girlfriends & have two amazing kids so not completely wasted time

I met a guy last summer who had a Caterham he'd built from a kit. Took him 3 days to build it apparently!!!
I started mine just after I got married in May 2012 - still going now but hope to get it completed in 2019

Yeah for all the cost of the Caterham kits, it's worth just shoving it on a loan, building it in a few weeks, enjoying it and paying it off at
the same time.
