What steering rack fits this?

I did post this a while ago but I will give it a go here in the locost section.
This is an F27 wide body.
I am trying to establish what steering rack mounts on the chassis.
The mounting points are approximately 345mm wide and 100mm top to bottom.
Far too wide for an mk2 Escort steering rack.
A Sierra rack is 397mm I am led to believe so this will not fit.

Could this be a mk4/5 Cortina does anyone have the mounting dimensions of a Cortina rack.
Any help would be appreciated its a bit of a mystery?

Thanks

A second measure of a Sierra rack would be good I do not have one but was told it was 397mm.
Thanks in advance.

A standard Sierra rack won't fit as the mounts would be outside the car!

Usually, they get the middle cut out and then the track rods extended.

Call me crazy but I would have thought a call to the F27 manufacturer would solve this very easily!

Cheers,
James

Don't know if I am too late with this info but I just been working on mounting a new steering rack on my new project.

This being a F27 wide body & looks to be the same as yours

Just fitted a Cortina Mk3 steering rack bought from Ebay

Here are the approximate hole centres of my rack mounting points

The width of the hole centres are 339mm & distance between the rack clamp hole centres is 96mm ( Measured at the chassis )

Here are a couple of pictures of the rack on its mount

Hope this is of some help to you

Ebay steering rack linky

STEERING RACK FORD, CORTINA MARK 3,4,5 tsk320 1.3,1.6, 2.0 70-82 STOCK CLEARENCE | eBay

Don't let the generic picture put you off, the rack fits just fine.

My Formula 27 Project

Hi

I have not really made a start on creating a photo archive as yet.

The F27 has already been on the road & is road registered

Going to treat the build to a full re-vamp.

Currently replacing the floor & alloy panels.

Still undecided on what engine to use though.

I have a 1.8 Zetec engine here, all dressed up & ready to go.

Also have a Vauxhall C20XE Red Top engine & Omega gearbox that I could also use.

Common sense tells me that the Red Top would be the best engine choice

My 2 lads are trying to convince me to shove another Rover V8 engine back in .... Way too much engine for me

Hope to be on the road later this summer, energy permitting that is.
